Planet Rings

Post by rigelan »

I just compiled the most recent SVN changes in linux, and for some reason the rings are now visible through the planet. You can see both the front and back of the rings, as though the planet were transparent, when clearly it is not.

And then I traveled around the planet to make sure that the ring wasn't actually in front of the planet. And no, it is not. The ring has the correct placement, it is just visible through the planet.

Seems like a z-buffer problem.

If you SPEC towards that planet, does that bug ever go away, or is it always like that?

I remember that we have had problems in the past where it was using a 16-bit depth buffer instead of a 32-bit one...

I did look at it from all sorts of point of views. Its still there. But I didn't look WHILE in the act of SPECing because I would SPEC away from the planet, turn around and look. So I didn't ever see it in action.
