Docking Indicators not visible (Vista Ultimate)

Post by Varch »

I am running Vega Strike on a Toshiba laptop under Windows Vista Ultimate (specs below) and I cannot get docking indicators to show up via using [ALT]+"0" as recommended in the documentation. I have tried all versions of special key + "0" combinations and cannot get docking indicator boxes to show up (green, red, or both). My display is normally set to 1280x800, Highest (32 bit), and I have tried using both windowed and full-screen setups. I do successfully run Vega Strike on two other Sony VAIO laptops under Windows 7, installed from the same Vega Strike installer package used for the Toshiba. What might be wrong and what tricks can you recommend to correct this?

Thanks!

Just try pressing d
At least on my system (svn on linux) pressing d outside docking range will make the green boxes appear; once in docking range, I press d again to actually dock.

This also has a beneficial effect in case you're trying to dock with a SPEC'ing capital ship that keeps zipping away before you reach it; pressing d will make it stop for a short period (around 20 seconds, I think they said) so if you keep pressing it every once in a while during your approach, you'll be able to keep it still and reach it so you can dock.

I think the key is just "0", no modifier key.
"d" also does it.

Of course I tried the ordinary "0" and it didn't work on that machine. I'm docking just fine on four other machines. Only the one gives me that trouble. On further examination, against a uniform planet background, I determined that the docking box *is* actually there, it's just a really thin white-lined box. It is barely visible against a planet, hopelessly tiny and useless against a moving ship.

There was a setting in the config file that had white assigned as the color for the docking box, and I changed it to green, as a test, but that didn't work.

So, Vega Strike is unplayable on that machine for me right now.

May be a driver problem but I have the latest recommended by Toshiba.

Guess I'll just use a different machine.

Hm... what resolution are you playing with? I mean in vssetup?

It's possible that the line is too thin for the LCD display. I've seen that happen with crappy displays... but I bet the one you're using isn't crappy (LCD displays on laptops are rather nice nowadays, I'm talking about the early LCDs).

Still, if it's a high enough resolution and the GPU has to resample it to make it fit on the LCD display, it's possible that it gets too thin to be visible. So try lower resolutions.
