radarType=Elite does not work as expected

radarType=Elite does not work as expected

The wiki http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/wiki/ ... 22_section describes an Elite-style mode for the radar display, but says "Does not seem to work (on 3rd March 2004)".

Because I really liked the original Elite 3D Scanner display (to give it its proper name :wink: ) I had a look at src/gfx/cockpit.cpp, in svn revision 12541, and there is certainly code there to differentiate between the WC and Elite types.

Setting the value of radarType to Elite in vegastrike.config does not produce the radar[0] display that the wiki describes, however. Neither left nor right radar sections are active. Radar traces (dot and line) are displayed as part of the HUD, i.e. superimposed on the main screen, but not in a way that is useful for navigation or tactical awareness.

I'll see if I can understand what cockpit.cpp is doing before I post this to the sourceforge bug tracker.

What is the status of the Elite style radar?
I would also like to have that radar.
