Vega 12503 from SVN crashing

Post by Mets »

hey guys,

I just did a fresh checkout from SVN of the latest Vega release and I can't get it to work at all. (for win32) VegaStrike.exe loads a game window, white screens, and crashes back to the desktop. If I double click on setup.exe, it won't load anything. Below is the stdout and stderr files. Any ideas?

Ok try deleting factions.xml from your svn tree then update the whole tree that should get you a new copy of factions.xml hopefully uncorrupted one that will be readable by the engine.

Enjoy the Choice :)

Well, the game is running fine for the most part, although I've now experienced it crashing quite a bit when I go to save it at at mission computer, trading computer, upgrade computer, etc. I just though I'd post the output so it's noted.

I tried updating SVN again to see if it was missing something, but it says it's all there, so I'm not sure. I'm not too familiar with reading these files, but I think it's telling me that In game it can't find the Diplomatic Agricultural Center or the merchant's guild files, so it crashes?

Not sure what is going on there are quite a few tracebacks pyramid the guy adding all the new content has mentioned that one of his additions needed a new binary to work it was one of the new sound files and building a new windows binary that works is a bit of a black art that only a few of the devs seems to have mastered and they have been not active for a while now so hopefully a new windows binary gets committed to the svn soon.

Enjoy the Choice :)

Yeah I just read that in the SVN log as well, the change from pyramid3d was "Mechanist speech audio (by CLoneWolf)", but I don't know if this has anything to do with my problem. It's crashing at the computer terminals, and it looks like it's trying to find some merchant guild thing.

If it's any help, I've also noticed in game that the universe changes almost every time I load the game. Ex. I'll load the game and Stirling might have a commerce center and a refinery. I'll load the game another day and it will have none of those, but maybe an agriculture station and a mining base. Not sure if that's supposed to happen or not, or if it might have anything to do with it.

That load behavior is normal part of the dynamic universe i believe it can be annoying when your fav trade set up disappears. As for those python errors it may be something as trivial as a comma in the wrong place or a line starting with the wrong indentation to a something more serious I'm not up to speed on Python and can only spot the obvious errors like misspelling variable names or keywords. It is possible to revert to a revision that works so you can find which update broke it for you.

Ah I didn't know that, yeah it's getting kind of annoying :p

Well I'll just keep trying to save the game as much as I can, and then check the repo for updates. Thanks for the help loki.
