Respawn after death doubles bases

I'm not sure whether this is already known.

Had a savegame in Stirling system, started from one of the two Mining Bases there, flew back to Cephid 17, and due to pilot error got killed.

After respawning with ; the Stirling system suddenly had all its bases doubled (the new bases seemed to be at new locations though). I.e., 2 Agr. Stations, 2 Relays, 4 Mining Bases, etc. Planets did not double as far as I remember, Jump Points not either.

That does not appear to be expected behaviour you would not happen to still have stdout and stderr still about for that run the output log they are in the bin folder on windows or the terminal output under Linux i usually redirect to separate files

so i have the total output after any game run so if it happens again please post them so we can figure out what hit the fan :wink:

Sorry, forgot about the output. Tried the savegame again three times by restarting VS each time in order to recreate the exact same situation. Got shot down each time by a bunch of pirates, which weren't there before. My Llama was not very maneuverable with 5000% mass. No luck today.

Will try under different/better conditions another time and post the output.

BTW: Do you prefer the two separate files (vsoutput, vserr), or just one merged the right way? I for my part wouldn't be able to piece them together anymore ...

So, got the same situation again. Stirling to Cephid 17, got ambushed in Cephid 17 by a second wave of pirates and killed (3100% mass with 4fps makes fighting quite challenging).

Respawned with ; and viola, all bases (not planets, jump points, or other phenomena) were doubled. All in different places, not sure wheter the old ones kept their locations.

Made a combined (merged) stdout/stderr file. Look for string "Plowshare.stock". The 2nd and 3rd occasion (both in the same line) kind of mark my death. The 4th occasion should be the point where I respawned. There are some tracebacks I do not understand yet. I undocked and then quit the game with Ctrl-c.

I just realized, I'm not at the HEAD svn, but on revision 12308 from May, 25th 2008.

I will update to HEAD this weekend and try again. Didn't dare yet, as some other people experienced shifted faction relations.

I hope this helps anyway. Otherwise let me know, if you need additional information. I'm happy to try to gather them. :-)

Another curious thing with respawning. After being shot down near the Autosave base and respawning, I have my cargo again and additionally can scoop up the cargo of my former self. It seems to me that some units are not properly destroyed while respawning and thus duplicated. Only a guess, though ... :)

Yeah that is a known 'exploit'. You can let yourself die to duplicate expensive cargo and then tractor it in. You have to be quick though, because cargo seems to have a self destruct timer :wink:
