If your ship is destroyed under the right circumstances, you'll be left in an ejection pod (even if you don't eject). That's (probably) normal.
However, if that ejection pod is destroyed in the same way... You'll be left in an ejection pod again. That is most certainly not normal.
(To reproduce this, it's probably best to start a new game, fly your Llama within weapons range of the local fighter barracks, and insult them. They can blow you to pieces with their disruptor beams again and again, and you won't die, even if you've already ejected.)
