The mass of your cargo is added to the ship gross mass so you have an increase in your inertia too.so if you plan on any combat flying empty helps and sometimes you may need to dump the cargo to survive

Also, the Halo trial vers under wine messed with my custom xorg settings and i didn't have a backup(oops) so now its sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf

If you have a Nvidia card, you can try instaling Nvidia Drivers version 100.19 you can download on their site, arquived drivers.
Also if you still have problems i did start a Graphic Gliches Thread.

You can run VS in Windoned mode and take some nice Screenshots of the problems and post there so we can help you out.

right now i can only run in wondowed mode. it refuses to go fullscreen. it also flashes white and yellow instead of showing the splashscreens and skips the menu, which makes me think it may in fact be a python glitch. i'm using python 2.5 that came w/ ubuntu 7.10.
