Looking for a good Goddard build

Post by Dobbin »

New to the game of about 2 weeks and i've managed to come across a MilSpec Goddard which i really dig. i'm looking to pick up a non-MilSpec Goddard so that i can have more options (milspec seems really limited in what i can throw on it). i'm not entirely framiliar with all the functions of the game yet and was wondering what weapons and upgrades i ought to throw on the thing. from what i've read, this seems to be one of the most versitile ships. Thanks for the input.

I know this is kind of off-topic to this discussion, but could I have permission to upload pictures of certain spaceships on the Vega Wiki?
Because as I have noticed, a LOT have no pictures yet.

Your normal permissions should be enough to post pictures to the Wiki you may have to link to a hosting site like photobucket though.

I just pimped mine with the best stuff I could get. With one exception -- I didn't get the second hull. I think I got either the ablative or the sublimative (whichever is better) because I didn't want to add so much mass to the already sluggish Goddard. Also, I replaced the laser beams with ion beams. The increased beam stability probably makes up for the higher range attuention.

Wohoo zombified thread!
Does it craves brains?

And you should be able to find Goddrds at most fighter barracks and star fortresses.

It probably depends on what you're trying to kill. e.g. hunting one capship, or fending off lots of fighters.

And it depends on how you want to fight, too. short range or long range...

I hope VS is complex enough that there isn't a simple best (for all situations) choice.

On my Pacifier, I'm doing pretty well with a Hephaestos cannon, a Shield Breaker, a rapid fire microwave beam, an Arc Device (which might or might not actually be doing anything), and a pair of pugilists. I have torpedoes on at least on heavy missile mount. (Easiest million buck I ever made: fire one torpedo at an Rlaan capship. One-shotted it, and only put my relations with rlaan_civilian down to 80.) Now I'm carrying an Aera advanced torp, which does a million MJ phase damage . If I ever get into trouble with a capship, I can probably get out again.

I haven't given my pacifier much combat testing since getting some "shady mechanic" upgrades, e.g. to turning rate. That's where a pacifier really falls down, e.g. relative to an Admonisher. Admonishers have a few less missile mounts, but they're faster.

Of course, I have a heavy tractor on one of my special-missile mounts. (I didn't think any missiles were special enough to be worth having...) With 1000m^3 of cargo space, you can scoop up some valuable goodies. e.g. construction vehicles, worth 100000 per cargo unit. Nice bonus to a bounty mission. (On my Rlaan bounty mission, the ship coughed up an Automated Factory, but of course my hold was an order of magnitude too small. It sucks seeing 33mil$ slip through your fingers like that...) I wish I could have towed it somewhere with my tractor. Maybe I'll pretend I did, and add some credits to my save file. :D

I've decided having a tractor is the way to go. Its great to get a bonus for killing some plowshares, and you can make an easy 100k blowing up ULN gleaners and sucking up their cargo

OK I killed a ULN mining base in 2 ADV torpedos from the Aera.
Then, I got swarmed by hyenas and died :(
They wouldve been toast if I had been on my Deriative...

How to I get turrets? I can never install any :?:

Goddard's take pd-long turrets only, but they are very effective. I think they are installed by default. Try 'o' to turn on turret AI's (i think that's the key there should be a hud indicator now)

In my ship info there are 2 subsystems, both of them called destroyed_blank. They do no damage, have no armor, etc. Did they get destroyed? If so how do I replace them?

How do they show up at the upgrade shop if they are in yellow or orange they are damaged try a repair on each separately you would have to do that anyway if you want to sell them or replace.

They don't appear. I recall them once being white, under weapons, but they're not present now.

Once turrets get destroyed, they are permanently destroyed and cannot be sold, repaired, etc. This is a bug. At least it was a few months ago. I don't remember it being fixed. Maybe a bug forum thread is in order, except I think ace said he was going to do some work with subunits for multiplayer anyway so that may change it.
