Corvette

Post by Dark »

Can you guys help me find four good long range weapons for my Corvette? I need something that has excellent range and strength so I can damage some capital ships at a distance and destroy a few capital escorts.

Since you're cheating, I would suggest you hack yourself some GrandGauss guns. They are the main guns of the Aeran Leonidas (Yavok in 0.50). You'll probably need to hack a better reactor, but you might not-it all depends on what corvette you have.

That might be a problem because I don't know how to hack guns :(

First, read this.

http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/forum ... 19&t=15085

When you look @ the stuff about repairing/hacking the turrets, notice that in the CSV with the ship data, there are missiles and guns. Go into your seralized xml folder (will have to use show_all command to see the hidden folders,) and open the right folder. Open the file for your corvette. Locate the gun you want to replace, and paste in "{GrandGauss;-1;0;SPECIAL AUTOTRACKING ;" (without the quotes.) DO NOT CHANGE THE NUMBERS, DO NOT DELETE THE NUMBERS BEFORE OR AFTER THE PASTED TEXT!!!!! :D (This is the position of your gun. If you want a dysfunctional gun floating a mile away from your ship, that is how you get it. )

Make sure you back up your files before you do this, I recommend copying the save you are working on to the desktop, so you can reload it if you break the save. Out of curiosity, what corvette are you planning on modding?

BTW, I'm running Mac OSX. If you're running something else...someone else will know how to do this, but I don't.
Hope this helps. :P

GrandGauss is a special bolt, and the Corvette already has a special mount, so why not just put it on the special mount? If you do that, then there's extra room on the Capship-Heavy mount. For that, I suggest hacking an icepick beam (although you said you wanted long range). The icepick beam has a rather unsatisfactory range (~4000 meters), but the damage is incredible (OVER 1.5 million mjs per second, that's more than 1 torpedo per second!). Have a good reactor, however. Icepick eats tons of energy.

If you don't want an icepick, try a LR_Pminus Mk IV beam or the like. They are really long ranged and do a lot of damage.

For comparison:

GrandGauss (aera): 40,500 damage, 35,100 phase damage (damage that goes straight through shields), 0.75 sec refire delay (1.25 shots per second), range 190 km
LR_Pminus Beam Mk IV (confed): 81,000 damage per second, no phase damage, 6 second beam stability, 2 second refire delay, range about 178 km
Icepick (rlaan): 1,620,000 damage per second, 1,620,000 phase damage per second, 2 second beam stability, 1 second refire delay, 4.75 km range

By the way, weapon hack method is same for Mac or Windows.

Oh, and if you want something that does a ridiculous amount of damage (54,000,000,000 mjs per shot) and are good at aiming horrendously slow missiles, use capship missiles :D. Capmissile + capship = Giant nuclear explosion.

I favor GrandGauss because of the massive phase damage, but, if you don't mind having to kill the shields, the LR_Primus beams are a good pick too. One problem both have is the massive power drain, however, I *think* that GrandGauss have a lower power drain then LR_Primus beams (I know I can use a GrandGauss on my Goddard w/o any reactor or capacitor hacks.)

Thanks, did not know that. :D

Only if the target ship doesn't have any PD defenses.

However, f you want lots of Capmissiles, you could use a Vigilance.

Actually, the LR_Pminus Beam Mk IV does not use much more energy than grandgauss. At 1.25 shots per second, grandgauss would (theoretically) use 125,000 mjs of energy per second. LR_Pminus Beam Mk IV does more damage and uses 150,000 mjs per second. The icepick as mentioned before, eats up energy like crazy, using 2,400,000 mjs per second (aka 16 pminus beams).

Another thing to consider is that bolt weapons aren't as accurate as beam weapons. Likewise, beam weapons have more range attenuation factor. Therefore, the grandgauss is more inaccurate but does full damage at full range. The Pminus beam is more accurate but does only 64,800 damage (80%) at full range.

Icepick is the extreme of these. It does only 50% damage at full range, and has a tiny range to begin with. However, if you can get within that 1,000 meter mark, you can easily vaporize a Confed capship in the span of a few seconds.
