Why is everybody attacking me?

Post by meznaric »

The game says that the factions all have positive ratings with me (except for Aera, luddites and pirates). However, andolians (their rating is 15) are attacking me (loads of their ships are after me). I don't want to kill them for the sake of loosing the ratings and they won't leave me alone! What to do?

Welcome meznaric you could try a new game with vanilla faction relations or target the guy shooting at you with the "R" NearestDangerousHostileKey and keep hitting the F1 key till he plays nice then move on to the next bad boy and repeat if you are still in one piece

Enjoy the Choice :)

The problem is that I have good relations with most factions but they are trying to kill me anyway... That's what I don't understand.

There's too many of them to try the F1 trick.

My only advice is to find some pirates to kill...or luddites  Good luck shaking the andolian fleet :)

I just ran into the same problem. I was happily transporting coffee and raw materials in the starting system and, suddenly, I get attacked by Andolians. I got positive relations with them all the time before that incident. I destroyed the attacking ships and continued. After several of battles of this kind, I looked at the ratings and saw that almost every human faction was against me. Of course, Aera, Luddites and pirates were happy.

Wherever I go, almost certainly there are some ships waiting to attack me. When I destroy them, the ratings drop even further. Occasionally they attack with more advanced weaponry and smash me. Are these bloodthirsty Andolians a bug or something intended? After all, relations are positive in the start of the game and I didn't attack them.

Not sure Nyme but there was some talk of the faction ratings system getting a rewrite so there should be some improvements coming in the pipe.

Enjoy the Choice :)

I have to agree with other contributors: there's nothing more demoralizing than getting your llama up to a reasonable state only to find at least one faction out to get you, probably for some minor indiscretion. With me it's the Uln. No matter where I go, there they are in enough numbers to bring the frame rate down to 4, making the whole game unplayable. I've started from scratch twice because of this. (Does a huge number of ships in a system add to the fun or just slow things down?)
When you finish a mission you're told 'your good work will be remembered'. If I've delivered a consignment to a faction, do I rise in their estimation or are they just sweet-talking me?

I think delivering cargo for them helps some, but blasting the faction's enemies makes a much bigger difference

But I agree that factions should be more forgiving of minor transgressions. (like blowing up a couple dozen koalas by mistake  )

I don't know about bounty missions (you actually get to destroy the faction's enemies which counts), but at least cargo missions don't have an effect to the faction's relation. I have done several cargo missions, all for klkk, and their rating has not risen. So it's just talk, I think. Perhaps this will change in future as loki1950 predicted.

I do get the Uln bothering me quite a bit - I have about -100 rating with their faction - although it seems like I have to provoke them in whatever system I'm in to cause a massive battle like you're seeing (where multiple Gleaners and Yeomen all SPEC around after me, with a huge fighter escort). Once I've aggravated the local Uln then they do all converge on my position - and follow me to another system if I jump away, although getting a few systems distant seems to work.

I think the Uln's antipathy to me started out because one of their Dodos (or similar) flew too close to me and collided - I survived, it exploded. They got annoyed and kept flying close, which made collisions keep happening. Eventually they got so annoyed by these "kills" that I had to start fighting back... Friend or Foe missiles are very successful at taking these ships out without much fancy flying / aiming on my part, so I started killing them when they became too inconvenient.

Once I'd earned enough money to upgrade my Llama quite a bit, I started being able to hunt Uln gleaners (and now Yeomen) and tractor their cargo - avoids me having to make friends with them and is quite a good source of income. I still occasionally need to quit the system if too many of them attack at once when they get really annoyed. Another tactic I'm trying is hanging around near local bases in the hope the Uln will accidentally hit the base and bring them into the combat too.

Well, my solution to that was to move to the other side of the universe... It might seem cowardly, but after trying to engage the (once) friendly Forsaken (I blew one with those heatseekers... Oh well) and Uln (5 for the same reason) many times, I decided to relocate to the Rlaan systems. Cephid 17 and surrounding suburbs are no longer safe for me.

It took a good while until I could recover from selling even my lasers to cover repair costs. I'm soo glad I'm getting some rest now.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams ... glitter in the dark near Tanhauser Gate. All those ... moments will be lost ... in time, like tears ... in rain.

hey, i'm suffering the same problem, EVERYONE in the sarrounding systems seems to want me dead. BUT i've only killed on craft, Another rammed me and destroyed him self. I'm not sure what faction that was. The one craft i killed was a pirate as i was out in teh middle of no where when he attacked me. Since then i've died several times (respawned) from these and i have positive relations with just about all concerned - usual suspects luddiets/pirate n so forth. This is really driving me mad as i want to play this game but the way teh game play is and the -rating u need to get a bounty is just stupendously LOW. u kill 2 ships from a faction and they go running off to their mums placing bounties on self defending traders???? surely in teh next update this should be taken into account wether the kill was made intenionally or in defense.

I have found that when killing uln in any capacity it drops the rating on just about everyone except pirates and aera which gets better. So even though they are running into the rear shields/armor of my ship and committing suicide my friendships with all others are going away. I end up having to go aera hunting .. that raises the relationship values of all but aera/uln groups. Killing a pirate or 2 doesn't hurt but does drop the ratings on a couple of other groups.

I have gotten into using shroedinger with cloak or using a very fast ship to make fast runs, avoiding confrontations with the non-aera. (Hint . . . I have found a work around for trading. Buy trade goods with a ship with high cargo capacity then go to the shipyard and switch to a fast vessel with low/no cargo capacity. Make your run to the next port then at the shipyard switch back to the high cargo vessel and all your trade goods follow with it. I know .. it is a kind of open cheat . . . but it gets the job done. If you jump to another system you will have to pay a 50000cr fee to get the vessel transported so you need to make sure your trade profits exceed that. High value items trade help to make up for it. schrodinger/plowshare is a good early combo. Later I like shroedinger or derivative/mule combo. The milspec versions are faster and the shields raise much faster.)

And you can have a 100 rating with the uln but have a negative rating with uln citizens and the uln citizens will be the ones coming after you. They are usually the ones with no weapons doing kamikaze attacks on the rear of your vessel.

Since I am fairly new to open source and am not a coder in the languages used in creating open source apps I don't really have a clue. Unless whoever does write code causes any excess cargo to be lost completely (not without a warning to the player perhaps). At this point I am considering it to be stored and transported on the ship being delivered to me.
