I don't think this is a pariticularly good idea...
we should use the gettext option for all in game text... not sure about text generated for mod files

gettext will automatically generate a file to use to translate

another problem: that stupid glut font has hardly any letters in it...no accents or anything--very annoying

not sure how to fix that eitherr

With a bit reflexion, i don't want to make a "French version of Vega Strike" but a "French conversion tool for Vega Strike". Do you see the difference?

So i am convince that replacing original *.mission by the french ones is a good idea: people who wants a french translation will not use the original version!

For the interface text, i don't know how it works. Could someone explain to me?
If gettext is absolutely needed, how does it work? Does it work with Windows?

About the glut font, i'll be able to write translations without accents if there's not another method: it will still be readable.

I suggest that's grounds for ditching the glut font entirely and moving exclusively to bitmap fonts. That way we can ensure that we can generate all the characters we would ever need, and making new fonts for different uses would be fairly straightforward.

Pardon the Babelfish translation!

Yep! I start to think it is the best solution... But that's mean a lot of more work! :(

Moreover, it will disturbing the developpers from the principal task: how can we translate, and the translation itself...

As i said previously, reading french without accents is possible and is not chocking!
So, we could let this secondary (in my opinion) question of the font as a background task.... :)

Ouais!

There are a few projects at varying levels of completeness that try to get ttf fonts working with glut......one is the python gui lib I posted in the Devel forum (currently windows only, but from what they said they are working on linux (and by extension mac) too.......

Dan.a

Very interesting! :D
Could you give me the name of this font, or the link to the post where you talk about that?

Thanks!

Merci!

It's not a particular font per se that he's speaking of -- he's talking about "TrueType fonts," which is really a standard language for defining vector fonts, the kind that can be scaled and stretched and still look good both on-screen and printed.

Most of the fonts in your standard word processor packages, (arial, times new roman, etc.) are TrueType fonts. The fonts used in web pages usually are as well.

Thanks to my big sister for the French translation.

I understood that he didn't talk about a particular police but about a glut adaptation that can support ttf fonts...

I have searched on the web, about this project, but i haven't found anything! :?
Does anyone know anything about that?

P.S: congratulations to your sister! She's writing french very well! :D

Thanks for the address!

I just come back from the web home page of this project and i'm not sure to understand all: if we use that, it may replace the glut/glut32 libraries currently in vega strike, isn't it?
If it is, i'm not sure i can succeed in this alone and, so, i need people can help me!

She says thank you. And she likes your avatar -- she's into penguins.
