Sorry to revive an old question, but I think this may have changed...

Does anyone know which system Earth is in the Sol sector?

Also, is the universe randomly generated each time or is it always the same? I noticed from different saved games that the map (SHIFT+M) looks different for each saved game.

Hi DarkVixen it has not changed here is the full route from the default starting planet

Chepid /Chepid_17 -->Strirling -->Agea -->War -->
Magellen /Steakley -->Theta-Ant -->Tesc-1613 -->
Sol / Hhrass -->Ktrk-pah -->Prithivi-mata -->Rudras -->Cairo -->Ogawa -->Telemmon -->Sol

The generated universe maintains the physical geography but varies the political geography(where the various factions start).

You're right, the universe stays the same, but the factions change.
