Vega-Wars Mod (big images)
Here is Etheral Walkers beutifull A-wing, with a re-fitted texture, rendered in deep-exploration.
Of course the real thing will look not exactly like this, but will use the exact same model.
On the other hand, the finished version in vega-wars will also have a per-pixel map

Beautiful A-Wing!!!
Can't wait to see the X-Wing, if it's rendered anything like as well.
By the way, I don't think we need a working title yet. Star Wars Mod suits me just fine. It's descritpive, simple and to the point. I'd rather focus on doing it and testing it...

> Question <
Is VegaStrike released under a GPL or more of a BSD license???
If it's a BSD-style license, then there is nothing to prevent LucasArts from hijacking and improving whatever work we do to prepare a game and sell it themselves, considering they own the images of the various ships...
It could be an incentive for them to leave the project alone in that it would present them with a finished or nearly finished product for release...

Technically, if your meshes are of a copyrighted property like ships from Star Wars, Babylon 5, Star Trek, or whatever... your meshes cannot be protected by a GPL license. You don't own the IP for an X-Wing, LucasFilm does. Paramount owns the Star Trek ships, etc. You can own your own original ships,... but not the movie stuff.etheral walker wrote:GPL, so nobody can still our meshes
Having the coding under a BSD license and the original meshes and mods (i.e.: those not based on popular television and movie titles) under GPL licenses would solve that problem to a large extent. You simply would not attempt to copyright the meshes for movie and TV related add-ons.

well I'm wondering... I know all the VS main trunk stuff is safe because it's all original
but for the mod people:
they didn't use any copyrighted material...they made their own meshes that looked similar to those from movies...
but isn't copyright apply to stuff that's COPIED... as in exactly the same, bit for bit...
for instance with music...I own the Star Trek Symphonic score.... and they say they have no affiliation with paramount...yet the music sounds exactly the same...why? cus they reverse engineered their music...
how is this any different? it's not music, it's models...and no copyrighted work was used..and no Gnus were harmed in the process
anyhow I hope this mess doesn't come to haunt any of the VS mods...
but I figure it'll be treated like most fan projects are...
Ignored
anyone watched the fanimatrix? now that *did* use copyrighted material...
it's pretty cool if you can get over the accents

But i have watched the "matrix XP" fan movie and it is quite cool (german/english).
As far as i know they didn't use any copyrighted art, but i may be wrong. Just watch it......
