I know you believe you understand what you think I said.
But I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

in fact, I looked on the web for all the ships I remembered, to have enough images to make accurate meshes. After that, I hunted for more "exotic looking" ships, to make some meshes of ships which have a really nice and uncommon look, some ships which may have been seen 1 or 2 times in the movies, that's why some ships will look uncommon ;). And I know I wil have to post some proofs about the existence of these ships ;)
some like this one, as an example,

Ok, I'm currently finishing some minbaris meshes, will try to decrease polycount, but with such round things, well, it will become hard ;)

Ok, I finished meshes+cockpits, kensuguro has made me some GREAT music on B5 theme, and I'pm working on the universe itself now. I'm asking myself if some of yours have some space backgrounds and planet textures maps to send to me? There is a bunch of planets to texture, and, herr... it's so boring and repetitive... I use one of the planets generators found in the wiki, if someone want to send me some images, I've already generated about 96 textures maps, and I need a total of 200 to finish my universe
I don't know what I can give for such a service, but if I can help somewhere...

I just tried the planetgenesis program also linked in the wiki:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/planetgenesis/

It produces really cool planet textures (procedural). Unfortunately they are greyscale, so i am now trying to figure out an easy way to make them look real.

Ok i think i have found the right mix for tropical planets 8)

http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/users ... nesis4.png
http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/users ... een_01.png

It's only a small version, but shows the potential of the program.
In higher resolutions there are some "stroke" artefacts, but i am currently working on them.

planetgenesis file (=source) is here:

Ok here's one finished texture (they come in two flavours: "Caribbean Blues" and "Land and Sea" ;-) ):

http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/users ... _8_las.png

Rest of the data is here:
http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/users ... tures/4_8/

Could you test them if they look good if you use them in game?

Pontiac

PS: the "fuzzy" land from the first screenshot is gone with this one, but i will try to bring em back somehow

Ok here is one new planet texture:
http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/users ... ures/6_01/

I also uploaded the gimp gradient files i used for coloring these (expect for the ones already shipped with gimp) so you can used them yourself:
http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/users ... gradients/

finally i tested this one in vegastrike and it does look like this (1024x1024px texture):
http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/users ... 01_lv2.png
Same with caribbean look:
http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/users ... 01_cb4.png
Does vegastrike scale the textures down if the config is set too low? And how does the setting look like?
As i said before, extreme high res textures aren't a problem. Currently i use 1024x1024px because i just fiddle around a bit.

decrease?

I found the right setting for max-texture size and set it up a bit:

Code: Select all

<var name="max_texture_dimension" value="67108864"/>
Even with a 4096x4096px texture it looks a bit blurry, but this seem to depend on my textures. :?

the best thing I found is using a med res texture with a detail texture, does it work for planets? It seems strange , because when I fly near a planet nothing seems to appear. Maybe I'm not near enough...

i dont think detail textures for planets are suported yet, though support would be really nice. Specular highlights have some partial support, but appear to be broken.

The caribean appears a bit too bright near the edges of the land. The lava is pretty cool, dont forget to make a night-side map for lava glow. I made a whole bunch of 1024 planet textures a while back. If you want them, they are somewhere in the artwork forum. They have spec maps, but as i said, support seems to be broken now.

That's easy to fix, i just lower the 'beach' color a bit in the gradient. ;-)

That's a thing i wanted to do, but i don't really know how to include them in the system file to test ?
Are there examples in the systems i can look at?
EDIT: I am asking too fast ;-) just found it over the textures.
<forget the last lines i wrote in this edit. i figured it out too ;-) >

lava at night

Just a small screenshot of a Lava Planet at night 8)
Image
http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/users ... 3night.png
(mind the horizontal day/night zone)
The texture files have been uploaded.

I also updated some of the "caribbean" gradients to have less sand and uploaded some new images with them.
