Universe Observing Tool

I've started works over special tool to observe universe.xml file.
To build good universe, we need good tool to look through universe file in order to fix things that are wrong :-)

Goals:
1. Scrollable viewport
2. List of all starsystems with QuickSearch ability
3. Highlighting different races pre different colors
4. Factions observe ability ( with related to current faction star systems )
5. System-to-system jumps observing ability

Additional Goals:

1. Prepare "edit" mode ( you can move starsystem on screen visually with mouse, and it will be moved inside universe.xml )
2. Visually adding/deleting starsystems

add suport for the jump base mods like vegastrike, priveteer remake and wingcomand.

Hmmm......will this encompass ALL quadrants?? And if it does, WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU GET STRANDED IN THE DELTA QUADRANT!?!!? DO YOU HAVE TO SPEND 75 YEARS GOIN HOME!??!!? =O Or do you just use a handy transwarp conduit???

This is overall universe map. As you can see we are short in some races's starsystems.
When I'll improve this utility, users will be able to create their own star systems in this tool and we will start creating improved universe map.

We will need Dominion, Breen star systems and more Cardassian and Romulan ones

What about the borg?? Don't they get a little corner of the galaxy all their own?? I mean, don't just plop them right smack in the middle of say, Romulan space, then 5 minutes later: OMGWTF TEH ROMULAN SPACE GOT ASSIMILATED OH NOES!!!! ROMULUS IS TEH NEW UNIMATRIX!!! WE GONNA GET PWNT!!!! =O

Progress update:

- added Faction List
- added Jumps Panel
- highlighting of all jumps of currently selected system
- XML parser for whole stunuverse.xml ( planets section is also parsing now )
- graphical improvements

Tool has been updated!
Need testing and feedback.


1. Download Windows Version Here:
STuniverse.zip

2. Simply unpack archive to any directory on your hard drive

3. Start STuniverse.exe...

-You can drag with mouse every system on map and it's coordinates will change inside XML file and on visual map
-You can select star system and edit it's characteristics
-You can navigate through factions
-You can navigate through jumps

I need feedback and feature requests before we start constructing Universe for VegaTrek

Nice little program; looks like tons of work went into it. Some of the feedback I could give you is stuff you already know, like having choice of English, having a File menu, like to Load, Save, Save As, etc.
Also a View menu, with view options such as to show all jumps in dark grey even when not selected.
Also, when a system (star) is selected, it turns green and you may forget what faction it was; maybe a dot in the middle or a halo could be use to show selected state, rather than coloring the whole star.
For other mods, the ability to go File -> New, and be able to start by entering factions from scratch. And of course, being able to edit systems inside; but that'd be a ton of work; would need to allow one to start by defining base types. And some mods, like Vegastrike have orbiting planets; while others have planets that are fixed; and scales may vary widely between mods; and some systems would be "scripted" while others could be left to random generation... so I realize that this is really a ton of work.
And for another ton of work idea, I could suggest 3D maps ;-)

This looks pretty good.

In addition to just a text list of jumps from system to system, it'd be nice if those were represented as lines on the sector map. Having the ability to turn the lines on/off would be a plus.
