2d Universe Dilemma

Post by tillias »

There is a very big dilemma between two things -- creating full simple 2d Universe map and 3d space in VegaStrike.

One the one hand -- we need good map to make people feeling comfortable in huge open space. They need to know how to get from star system A to star system B quickly.
So we need to provide them with good 2d Universe map.

On the other hand we are faced to 3d reality of VegaStrike engine.

Any thoughts about this?

As we can see in many sources -- global Universe map's are always 2d...

Sources -- other games, Trekish maps etc etc etc.

So I want to make 2d global map in VegaTrek.

See example in attached picture

The 2d is not a problem. And in federation space, we have quite some information about federation worlds.

Of course, we have to add some uninhabited systems in between for completeness. However, we have almost no information about romulan/cardassian/klingon etc. star systems. There our fantasy must invent a lot of systems.
