Planetary textures

Post by esgaroth »

Hi !
As the standard vegastrike planetary textures are a bit lame, I have been searching around and came across a photoshop plugin called LunarCell that creates planet textures. I have made some and put them here for discussion. Most of them look really good in vegastrike/vegatrek. Opinions ?

I think some clouds could really improve the textures. And perhaps making multi-layer textures would also look cool. 8)

Very nice textures. Can the tool generate height/normal maps, also?

Clouds would definitely be on a separate texture. Klauss has some pretty amazing cloud shaders that make the clouds project shadows onto the ground, as well as self-shadowing. But you'd need to generate cloud textures; --the only cloud texture I've seen so far is the one from NASA, and I've already memorized it. :)

Yepp, clouds are on another texture. The plugin allows adding clouds or making cloud textures and Ive done some. The tool can also make height (bump) maps. Just added a teexture with bump. Ive tested a lot, and some I like more with bump and some without....
