For now only Developers version is avaliable:
http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7225&sid=ab76da8343340284fb9c8af66110f125

I hope in some months we will make version update, with upgrades for ships added, trading system ( you will be allowed to trade and earn money by trading ) and some other good things :)
God bless you!

Unpack files from archive ( WinRAR is good enough ) to directory you wish.
There is no installation needed at all.

All needed information is in the previous post I've showed. Just read next posts ;-)

There is a WinRAR trial version. Alternatively, the decompression code of rar-archives is free, search for "unrar" and you'll find a few free utilities.

I'd recommend 7-zip. Very handy, IMO.

It supports rar archives. Only it's interface is different from WinRar.
