Impulse engine, impulse speeds
Have anybody ever seen some information about impulse speed? Impulse engine?
In addition, maybe there exist some picture of it's internal structure?
I want to make 3d mesh for future upgrading system, but wonder how it looks like.

Some links above but not sure if they have pics.

The paperback manual described above may have what you need. That or an older version, someone on this forum is sure to have a copy.

Sure klauss, will be very pleased to you. I need all sorts of information.klauss wrote:I do have a copy of the manual.
But it's not really all that informative in a gameplay sense.
If you're still interested, though, I could scan&mail.
Even if it isn't good for gameplay at least I will try to make concept design of impulse engine 3d mesh and flight model for overall ship pack.
God bless you!

Maybe we should make inpulse speed depending on ship's mass?z30 wrote:The paperback manual described above may have what you need. That or an older version, someone on this forum is sure to have a copy.
Those Wiki are good, but say nothing about phisics. Any ideas?

Fighters would be the fastest, battleships the slowest. So I think mass has a signifigant effect. Besides, even if the top speeds were the same. the lighter craft would be able to make quicker changes of direction. Cruise speeds could theoreticly be the same, or even larger vessels faster. But combat speeds would favor smaller craft.

I will post here table of impulse speeds this day. We should discuss and playtest it together.Fighters would be the fastest, battleships the slowest.
We will start manueverness exactly after impulse speeds. We are pretty much in engine features: Maneuver_Yaw, Maneuver_Pitch, Maneuver_Roll, Yaw_Governor, Pitch_Governor, Roll_Governol, all kinds of accelerations ( different directions ). Just ship after ship, slowly and testing it.Besides, even if the top speeds were the same. the lighter craft would be able to make quicker changes of direction.

So let's start general discussion about this pre-table of impulse speeds
I will be happy to listen everything about those ships.

These should be combat speeds imo, 1/2 to 3/4 impulse. Full impulse would be with the afterburner like you have setup, and would be limited by how much stress the hull could take and the size of the engines. A larger ship could in theory go faster than a smaller ship, but would take much longer to reach that speed and would breakup if it tried to maneuver to much. Larger ships should have higher warp speeds tho, but that depends on the warp engines aswell. Just my opinion tho.

Speeds
The afterburner seems more like warp 1 than full impulse. Also, Full Impluse should not produce a strain on any starship, they all can do this. Yes, I know this would make all ships capable of the same speeds. However, their accelerations could be different.

Well, how do you think about this:
All ships will have similar afterburner speeds ( like 140-150 ) and different normal speeds?
Just keep in mind that we can control afterburner usage and acceleration.

Yes, exactly.Gosshawk wrote:Like bigger ships can maintain longer? And take longer to accelerate and decelerate?
Sounds good to me.
Afterburner_Usage_Cost in units.csv controls how much energy needed per second to use "Full impulse". It very depends on Energy System.
Though I have no idea how to balance Energy Systems. We need to decide how much energy standart Federation Phaser Type X ( Galaxy's ) consumes.
Then we need to decide how much time Galaxy class can fire ONE Phaser X ( like 50-500 seconds ).
And according to this information we can prepare Reactor capacity and Reactor recharge.
And if we know something about our "gold standart" -- Galaxy, I can try to prepare table. But again... Energy system VERY depends on Shields, Warp Reactor, Weapons System and some other I can't remember.
Editing one parameter will broke all other ones. We have to be very careful.
God bless you!
