civilian craft

Post by esgaroth »

I have been playin around a bit with some civilian craft which we will need sooner or later and modeled some low poly ones. Maybe others also share their models which we can use later on. The first one is a kind of improved j class which is preliminarily textured.

It can be downloaded at http://hometown.aol.de/atreuter/kclass.zip

The second one is a prototype of a large cargo transporter.

Download is http://hometown.aol.de/atreuter/trans.zip

The Transport is only very preliminarily textured and I would really appreciate some help /suggestions of the texturing wizards of the forum. Some suggestions to make them more trekish in style are also welcome, and of course they are free to be modified !

Those models are great! There's a few things you could do to improve the textures, but these are exactly what we are needing!!

I don't have time to give texture tips right now, but I just wanted to say how awesome you are for doing these!

There were a couple noteable civilian ships shown throughout the various series. A few options could be the Merchantman that apeared in ST:III, the DY-100 or 500 freighters, the varous freighters that all looked the same alway stuck to ds9 (bajoran i think), and that boxy cardassian freighter.

I want to see that Mercenary Vessel from the TNG episode with the mercs

I want to see the Husnock ship ;-)

That Bajoran freighter with a disruptor from DS9 was also cool

and don't forget our good friend Shakka When the Walls Fell ship :-)

nor Sunad's vessel

if you need pix of any of these ships I can dig up my horrible old website with pictures from the TNG cardgame

Thanx a lot. I have been posting the link to an Antares class freighter some time ago somewhere in this forum, but I was unable to track an individual designer of this model, so I`ll try to model it from scratch (as soon as the transporter has a more suitable texture and my marauder is finished....).
But of course I would be very grateful for pictures of other civilian ships, e.g. the merchantman. And of course, a mercenary vessel sounds great !

OK, here http://hometown.aol.de/atreuter/marauder.zip is a not so beautiful ferengi marauder like ship .

And here is a model of this incredibly small (4-5 m length !) toron class klingon shuttle http://hometown.aol.de/atreuter/toron.zip
Some pics:

The mercenary ship hellcat mentioned is probably this one:

Has anyone some more pics ?

The mercenary ship (which seems to have been reused as miradorn theta class raider) would then maybe look like this:

Awesome! My Favorite human ship!

I'd say maybe it should be a bit thinner? at least the individual wing tips...

Extra polygons

Post by thekryptonian »

You seem to have spent a lot of polygons in a very small area, around the rim of that roughly ovoid inlaid area on the dorsal side. You could probably get away with about half that many, giving you more polygons for your larger compound curved surfaces where you need more resolution.

You are right. However, besides merging them manually and remove the extra vertices I dont know of any possibility to reduce them (I am not one of the worlds greatest modelers and work with animator). Is there another way to reduce them ?
BTW, the model has about 600 faces at the moment and I dont think this will be a problem.

more vessels

Post by esgaroth »

Here we are, the improved mercenary vessel (i have reduced the thickness of the wing tips) with a still provisional texture.

It can be downloaded here http://hometown.aol.de/atreuter/theta.zip
There is now also a Norkova (Xhosa) class model Image

that can be downloaded here http://hometown.aol.de/atreuter/xhosa.3ds
I will upload the antares class from cainfa in the next days.
