What vars does VS-trek use to make inter-sys-spec nicer?

What vars does VS-treck use to make inter-sys-spec nicer?
IE: it presumably doesn't have problems with it (is that what's causing the freezing etc?)

Is there a way I can set it that only ships propagate inter-system, not explosion effects (the console was telling stuff in sol/sol (mars etc) was getting destroyed when I was in sol/red and just let off a lightmin torp.
