You may wish to, in addition to changing Combat Class values for the units, redefine the engagement priorities to more closely match the ST universe.
And, sorry for the stupid question, how can I do this ?

Esgaroth........I have the units and textures. I open Launcher, try a new game, it doesn't run.

Also, my antivirus software found a "hacking tool" in the Vegatrek directory.........

No idea what this "hacking tool" should be. Is the scanner a bit more precise which file it is ?
For vegatrek, what does it exactly ? Is the splash screen appearing ? Is it freezing somewhere ? Does it simply return to windows without doing anything ?

Maybe run the setup (also in the bin directory) first to change the settings according to your machine.

It barely even starts before it crashes to windows. No splash screen. No nothing.

post the two text files called "stdout.txt" and "stderr.txt" that are inside your bin directory.

Those two files should explain why it crashed.

Careful with that. Files should be scanned for viruses like 7 times before uploading to a public server. Someone downloads your file and gets infected with a virus they might sue you. Nobody working on open source projects should take any chances, like downloading cracks and stuff, IMO. Once your machine is compromised, it could infect any executable when you least expect it, and you might not even notice a thing... then end up uploading a vegastrike.exe that's been turned into a trojan... I'd be very careful.

After reading the obvious message in the stderr file, I changed to an 800x600 resolution, and it began to load, but stopped at loading 1i.bmp.

maybe try setting a smaller resolution... 1600x1200 seems too big for your screen according to the output

EDIT: also, yes, if you could check what exactly your virus program is reporting it would be *very* nice. Like what program name, and what Virus/rootkit/spyware/whatever.

Mistakes can happen anywhere... while it could be something on your computer that's infecting all programs it sees, it could also be a problem with one of the developers' computers.

I don't remember exactly.....and the entire address was not shown, but I think it contained the phrase "windowsExploit" or something. I now get splash screens, and files loading, but the loading stops at 1i.bmp, at which point the windows mouse shows. I'm using Vista by the way.

Does your virus checker let you rescan files might be a good idea and the name and version of the checker might also be illuminating some are more paranoid than others :wink:

Now that it gets into the splash screen, could you post your stdout.txt and stderr.txt again? It might give clues as to the problem.

Well, I guess this is a reminder to whoever uploads these things: Always scan what you're going to upload, and always be cautious to make sure it's ok.
Well, it was me who uploaded the files, and I am sorry, but I DID scan them (though not 7 times :) ). And last night I performed a complete system scan with my newly updated AVIRA - no viruses detected.

The VegaPriorities.csv file is a 2D table of combat class by combat class, and each cell has a value between 0 and 31, 0 being highest priority, and 31 being no desire for engagement. IIRC, each cell specifies the interest of the row in attacking the column (it should be pretty easy to figure out whether that is backwards by simple inspection).

Thanx ! That is the information i needed.
I have played a bit around, and fighter behaviour is most realistic if the mass of the fighter is quite low. With higher mass, they seem to behave more stupid (almost never trying to get behind you, just flying at you, turning shortly before you, flying away, and starting the same again most times). Dont know why, though...

BTW, just downloaded all three zip files from an independent computer and scanned them with 2 virus scanners- nothing detected.

Doesnt seem as our gurus know what happens there.
BUT: I just rad realized that the theta emission doesnt work and made a new bfxm with emission fixed- and, i now saw a similar behaviour ! When I start the mission script and wanted to test the theta, i also got a startup screen and everything loaded until the texture thetai-and then everything stopped. Maybe goto privateer100/save and edit the New_Game to start with another ship- just change danube.blank to defiant.blank, and then have a look what happens. Maybe the texture 1i or the danube bfxm is garbled...

Hmm....I tried galaxy.blank, as well as default.blank, and neither worked. When I close Vegatrek, I get a little popup error from Windows, saying "Display driver atikmdag has stopped working and has successfully recovered".

Strange... is privateer remake running on your machine ?
And did you also try changing all the graphic options to the lowest resolution and detail (iirc retro level) ?

The problem is that i dont know whether everything then works. But you can easily try... just exchange the old vegastrike binary with the new one and try.
And if priv remake doesnt work, then i am at the end of my knowledge.

You should be able to get most things working with the newest engine.

Some things to watch out for are to delete any saved game files as the new engine is incompatible.

I'm sure it's possible to get things working... don't know the exact data changes.

Well, I use Vista, and the 0.5.0 engine worked marvellously in comparison with 0.4.3, and I have never taken interest in the Privateer remake. Also, it struck me as odd that you would use the Privateer Remake, and not a "pure" vegastrike directory. Perhaps, with time and work, Vega Trek will become more stable, and I'll be able to run it. This, along with SPORE, would mean the end of my social life :lol:

Hi!
Small question -- look at picture I've attached. In 99% of cases when you're engaging enemy, player's and AI's ships are differently rotated.
For example it's is really easy to see such a situtation in game -- enemy ship is flying upside-down (if compared to player's ship orientation).

Is it possible to fix it? For example make AI tracking player's ship orianetation and rotate to be in the same plane as player is?
