Tried something similar with the privateer data set i just moved the latest vegastrike.exe to the piv bin folder and got an error about not finding a particular entry point in the SDL.dll so try moving the whole bin folder not just the exe file.

Ah, and did you run setup?
Yes, I tried everything in Setup.exe. If replacing the engine won't help, I think I'll really transfer the transfer from the other PC.

VT crashing

Vega Trek seems to crash always when I enter the Moropa system. It doesn't seem to be an interesting system though, so I can go around it, but it surely shouldn't be like this. The stdout is really long, so I'll post only the first and the last few lines. Just say if you need more.

Vega Trek seems to crash always when I enter the Moropa system
I have seen this behaviour with some autogenerated systems. As soon as we have all systems handmade this will not happen anymore. Hopefully....

OK, now to my other PC. I deleted VT and copied the working install from my home PC. Well. It crashed. In stdout it states, that a file called neutral_atmXatm.bfxm3.png couldn't be found. I looked, and really, no such file exists - not in 'normal' VegaStrike, not in the downloaded units.zip, nor textures.zip, nor in the downloaded main VT-zip-file. I understand Windows can make a program behave bizarrely, by not allowing to make e.g. some temporal setting changes to the graphic card. But make a program look for a file non existing??? I ran Setup.exe and made all settings fitting to this PC. Than I started VT this way:

ahh, maybe have a look at the stderr etc. in your machine where vegatrek works, most likely you see the same error messages. the differences between both may be interesting....

hi firestarter !
the patch contains 3 more ships, the maquis raider, the peregrine class fighter and the d´kora class marauder, some changed flight dynamics for the danube, and a few minor fixes. Nothing spectacular, but some small improvements. The main problem with the occasional game crash still exists and will probably do so until we manage to upgrade to the most recent binary.... this, however, needs to be done by someone who knows what he is doing... maybe wolphin has a bit of time in the next week to start on it. Nevertheless, i would be glad to hear some feedback !

Well iv only managed to fly around for an hour or so. First experienced a problem with launching but it was fine when i used the 'launcher'. I liked it a lot when i got inside the game. The one major problem iv found so far is that a lot of stations are within a planets docking range. So when i try to dock at a station i often accidentally dock at the nearby planet instead.
Perhaps you can decrease the docking range from a planets surface or increase the minimum distance that stations lie next to planets. Maybe theres a simple setting somewhere in the config i can change. Anyway this is the first time iv used vegatrek and i have to say a big thank you :) If theres someway i can help out, evan if its just reporting bugs let me know.

I have a problem, I think, not with the program but ingame. In a fight with some Thetas and Daphnes (the HUD images are great! It was really annoying to fight a ship, of which you don't know anything, whether it needs only some phaser blasts more or whether the shields are still online) I nearly had a hull breach. I won the battle, I made it to the news, but I have only phasers, the photon torpedoes are red in the weapon list and not functioning. Basic repair didn't change anything. I use a Danube class shuttle, with some hacked extra speed (180 normal, 400 with afterburner) and maneuverability (I changed the value from 140 to 160 at, I think, pitch and roll), and also I increased the cone within which I can fire phasers a bit. Apart from that, as Esgaroth said buying torpedoes isn't implemented yet, I hacked myself 500 of those, an have still 469, I think. So, does anyone know, how I can repair the torpedo tubes, or whatever is destroyed in the flight?

First of all, thanx to both of you for the feedback.
The one major problem ive found so far is that a lot of stations are within a planets docking range. So when i try to dock at a station i often accidentally dock at the nearby planet instead.
If you wanna dock with a station, you have to fly close, wait until the docking rectangle appears (green rectangle), fly to this rectangle until it is almost as big as the screen and then press "d" to dock. This should avoid docking with the planet. You can also request docking clearance at the station by pressing a button (dont know it by heart-i think it is "o", but to be sure you should have a look in the privateer manual), which is necessary by stations that are neutral or even hostile towards you. You might, however, have a look at the vegastrike.config, IIRC there is some variable for this docking range....

You ARE already helping us by reporting stuff like this. However, at the vegastrike download page there is a kind of minimal manual available for download. We would very much apreciate if someone (that means-maybe you ?) could improve and expand it. No knowledge in programming etc. necessary....and i help with infos as good as i can...

Hmmmm first, in the new patch buying torps should work-maybe anyone can check it and give some feedback. If not, then tell me and try to download the most recent stuff via svn- it isnt difficult, even a biologist like me got it working...
To the torpedo repair problem it is difficult to give a distance diagnosis-it might be possible that they can`t be repaired as long as you can`t buy them- try downloading the patch and have a look whether the problem still persists. If this is the case, then we have to ask someone who knows what he is doing (which isnt me-i can only mod a bit...) It also might be a problem of the launcher- the first variable of any weapon is the type, the second the ammo, and the third the available volume. In the beginning, the program dosnt care whether you have 400 torps in the launcher, even if he can hold only 1... but it might be a problem in the trepair program. Have a look at the weapons.xml, there at the relevant photon torps you see line like
<Distance speed="300" range="3000" detonationrange="10" volume="1" />
Have a look at the volume-if its larger than 1 change it to 1, and in your units.csv, be sure to change the first 2 numbers in the launcher both to 400

At least I never ever saw any rescue mission "Save Romulans from Pirates" although I see rescue missions rather often in the mission computers.) OK, let's go hacking...

They definitely won`t sell you weapons, because iirc i havent modded what romulan bases sell- so dont expect anything there except generic stuff.... and klingon and romulan torps still cant be bought - something that i have to implement sometime in the near future - after i found out why some ships fire weapons rather strangely without hitting me and why the federation Starbase that i armed yesterday here on my machine behaves similarly- it shoots at me, but i cant see any phaser beams but only kind of lightnings that wont hit me.....

i just download and install the 0.3.5 patch which is present on the first page of this subject and... VEGA TREK DOESN'T WORK :cry: !!!!

I run on an apple ibook G4. The vega trek's icon jump on the dock and disapears !

You will need to post more details--I think they are at 0.3.6 now but I'm not sure.

Would it be possible to open up the Console in the Applications/Utilities folder? Then, highlight all the lines relating to "vegastrike" or "vegatrek" and paste them here?

That might give some idea of the problems...

Also, check out the Vega Trek forums--a lot more people who might be able to help.

I don't think there is a 0.5.0 version of VegaTrek. The Vegastrike engine is on version 0.5.0 and can be downloaded through the 'Downloads' tab at the top of the screen.

If you want to use the 0.5.0 version of the Mac release without downloading the whole 500 MB Package, I recommend using subversion.

You can download subversion for the mac here:

Then, to get the 0.5.0 version of the engine do in the Terminal:
/usr/local/bin/svn checkout --ignore-externals https://vegastrike.svn.sourceforge.net/ ... /trunk/mac

Once you have VegaStrike.app you just download the 0.3.6 data, rename the folder to "Resources".
Then right click on VegaStrike.app, do Show Package Contents, and move "Resources" into the Contents folder.

I don't really know who is involved in making vega trek, but they might have some more ideas on their forum at wcjunction.com
