Thanks, I came to this conclusion long ago. It’s a vicious cycle of power vs speed. As well as defense vs offence.

Torpedoes do more damage but are not guaranteed to hit, and when they hit the damage is spread out over a wider area.

Phasers almost always hit, but to little damage to anything else.

Layman’s Terms,

You can kill someone with a sledge hammer or you can kill someone with a surgical knife. The difference is in precision.
