They give WCU an aneurism when I try to run it and the archiver doesn't like them either.
Technically wcu-devel is NOT really the next version of WCU, it should be labeled priv-devel for the next Priv Remake. I don’t know why sprit labeled it WCU. Click on any of my links to find out what WCU is and is not.

WCU is going to have a substantially different structure, and it IS going to break allot of things in the priv branch. However the new structure will allow easier development and deployment.

There lays your problem... hadn't noticed...
...you have to check out the "wcu" module - NOT wcu-devel

Code: Select all

cvs -d:pserver:anonymouse@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/wcuniverse co wcu
You may need some files from Privateer Remake - I'm not sure. It's been long since I made a from-scratch installation ;)

You will need vegastrike's CVS executable, though, which will be lacking some of Spirit's enhancements - so I'd say you use spiritplumber's latest (working) binary instead.

@mkruer

as you are talking about the next version of PR, what's up with it and what's up with MamiyaOtaru? Is he dead or something like this?

kind of off-topic,I know...

Where can I obtain this executable?

Actual he is working on it as is Darkmage. Its just for sanity reasons they are keeping quite about everything. I cant blame tehm, I am doing the same with WCWI.

Needless to say yes there will be a Privateer Part 3, this is what people frequently call wuc-devel branch, is in fact priv3 without the story.

EDIT: Priv3 will also take parts of GG as the base.

Once the new WCU system is flushed out. Priv3 will be ported to the new system. I am willing to bet that WCU will be out first which is probably better anyhow.

One of those should work:

http://www.spiritplumber.com/WCU/

(either patch 1 or patch 2 - I'm not sure, try first 2, then 1 if 2 doesn't work)

There is practically nothing in the WCU module, though. the AI, the cache, and that's it.

Hopefully one of the links provided will have the stuff I need.

Because until now the roles of priv and wcu haven't been reverted - that is, you install WCU over priv. In wcu is only what has to be overriden from priv. So... in order to make an install, you have to merge the two.

I updated the road maps.

Hopefully this will clarify everything.

Ok... step by step, on a linux-like environment:

Code: Select all

cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/wcuniverse export -r HEAD wcu priv
mv -f wcu/* priv
rmdir wcu
mv priv wcu

That is how things are now.

The following is how things should be, in the future - ignore if you're not interested in should-bes:

Code: Select all

cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/wcuniverse export -r HEAD wcu priv
mv priv wcu/mods
wcu/bin/setup
<use the GUI to activate the "priv" mod>
NOTE: the "export" command is better for installations than the "checkout", since it purges all those CVS control folders you don't want users knowing about ;)

I was going to include the option to have the CVS folders for those so interested, though :P

So how did this end up? I did a NSIS installer script of WCU way back in summer of last year (2005), and even had it pointed to chuck/klauss's sound files as an optional downloadable archive. I think this was back when the thought was to have something ready for DragonCon2005.

Ah, memories.

There's probably been like 2 or 3 releases and a number of patches since crouton was around.

I'm working on a working installation...
Well... making SVN easily checkable and running, because I do have a working installation (just not the latest) - the versions around are working, they're just hard to set up.

Klauss, if uploading a zipped version to my server makes it any easier than dealing with compilation setups and svn, feel free.
