Bugs found?

Post by Quixotal »

I just downloaded everything that Spiritplumber indicated in her instructions and started from scratch after resetting universe.

1) On first trip to Helen in Troy system I was passed as I was trying to land and still had to get within automatic landing sequence. As the bounty hunters in 2 centurions neared the planet the started to vibrate or jitter crazily and remained that way for some time until they turned around and started their waypoint routes again.

2) There is no music still for WCU? I get voices when contacting planets or comms with other ships...but no music and no voices in bars.

3) The graphics for the wormholes have lost their "skin" (only white revolving squares) since patch 13. I installed both 14 and 14a.

4)Its taking a fair amount of time to "load the new system when going through a wormhole...approx 3.5 to 4 mins...this on a Athlon 2.5Ghz 768Mb GeForce 4600V 128Mb VRAM

5)The computer froze for 2 mins when I was approaching N Detroit wormhole in N Constantinople system and a NPC ship broadcast msg "heh another dissatisfied customer"

will post more bugs as they occur

Slowness can be fixed quickly, sort of.
I'll talk to spirit about it.

Im packing patch 15, and Im also getting some slowdown on jumps(although not as bad.) What concerns me thoug, is that I buy sector maps, but when I go to those sectors, I can't cycle nav points, because, I don't seem to have the nav maps that I paid for. This in effect prevents me from leaving Gemini. Also, If i sell the generic afterburner back, to get the new one, my upgrade slots go from (for centurian) 11/12or however many I have left) to -5/12 so that I have to sell 5 items to upgrade once.:( Know how I can fix that?

I thought the slow -- read hang for anywhere from 10 to 30 seconds after a jump or autoing into a base or a planet was the resolution I'm running.

I only get it once after starting, unless I have a hostile in the vicinity of the jump or auto destination. Then it stalls for ten or so seconds. That makes me think that SoundServer is doing a changeover from cruise music to battle.

Unfortunately, you can still hear the cruise music under the battle music.

SoundServer is NOT releasing as it should.

I recompiled soundserver from cvs.... not sure what is/might be wrong with it, it's likely me having made a compilation goof.

can anyone compile a soundserver from cvs using a better compiler and see if that helps any?

Why recompile? Can't you just borrow it from PR1.2?

It was one of the many constants during the beta stages. After hellcat fixed it during beta 0.8 it pretty much stayed the same.

Heck, I can rename it and try it. That fast.

Here goes nothing.

{EDIT}

Sigh... You're playing MP3's aren't you?
No music.

Sound effects work GREAT though.

Did I do something wrong?

I can't find any weapons loaded out on my fragate -- Caveman.... Whatever you call the darned thing.

It just doesn't seem to have a listing in the units file at all. but it DOES have an Anti_Matter_gun. But there is no listing for it.

SoundServer isn't crashing the game. It's something else.
I found that the game is crashing when I try to jump in to Pendar's Star. I finally got the caernaven to jump only to find a few stationary asteroids and NO moving asteroids.

Hrm.... If you have enough load errors, I suppose you could crash the game.

ANywho.... on to find out whatelse.

Umm...
Just killed 4 pirates in Pender's Star and got to the jump point through an almost empty asteroid field. At the jump point, you can't jump. Not only that, but after the asteroid field you can't auto in to the jump point.

<sigh>

Now to see about taking the long way home.

{EDIT}

MY BAD...the stiletto has 1/2 the jump capability...I mean it HAD 1/2 the jump capability. ;-)

Hmm, so Penders Star is doing that to other people. Actually I nefver made it to the jump, as I never have after burners, and the auto isn't working right. Im not having any sound problems though.I remember that PR1.2 has a small lag when jumping as wel, unless you already used that jump recently, but in WCU its pretty bad. But that is all minor inconviences to me. Im more concerned with my lack of maps. I can't explore out of Gemini, and I really want to take a joyride into the Vega Sector.(I might add none of the sector maps work, not even
Gemini. I can't look at the wholpe sector. But in Gemini, the system maps work at least.)

I've noticed alot of the maps default to being zoomed in very far when in-system. So I just give the mouse-wheel a flick so I can see everything. Could that be the problem?

Buy your maps for 2000 or is it 20,000? Click on the map room window in an upgrade yard

I've had a scroll mouse since this came out. If that's the issue, I THINK there you can use arrows to zoom in and out but I'm not sure. It might be F-9 & F-10.... Or was that F-11 & F-12 that let me zoom in and out when out of cockpit and staring at my glorious POS?

Still, the slowness is about the hud images for the asteroid subunits.
It has nothing to do with the soundserver. If that's the reason for recompiling, I wouldn't bother. Still, if anyone is still interested, I'll have a new version of the soundserver up in CVS by monday (or tuesday, for anonymous access).

the reason for recompiling is that the soundserver i compiled doesn't exit when VS exits... i had to move around some flags in order to get it to compile at all, so it's 99% my fault. :)

and you're right, i took off the hud images and roids act a lot happier.

Thats odd. It seems I can't look around in the Units folder, or in the mounts folder in textures, and possibly others, without being kicked out of Explorer. I don't have this problem with PR remake, so I would guess its not Vegastrike that has the problem. hmmm.

We have some damaged textures indeed. I havent posted them now because I want to give you everything together with my new units.cvs

But from the top of my head, I remember the Clydesdale, Strakha and Sorthak have damaged textures.

i'm leaving ship related stuff alone for now then :) go nuts....

a few things i've noticed for myself:

* passenger transport occasionally goes into Insane Acceleration mode
* sabre.scramble same

* one of the arrows is 2x the size it should be
* jalekhi is a tad too big
* venture and raptor need their torpedo launcher size reduced because they stick out too much -- in fact, change the rear-firing torpedo in the raptor with an actual mine, since now mines work

Yup, my textures are as corrupt as your average politician(excluding any politicians or potential politicians in the forum). Anyway I can fix that? I wonder if my sector maps are also corrupt...
