hey guys... i have school to worry about... i need to wrap up a semi-stable alpha for wcu that is at least flyable nicely. please give me a hand?


* some kilrathi animation sprites for bases, we can just put those in and use priv base backgrounds

* ship sizes

* tell me what glaring bugs need fixing

* make more ships buyable outside of plot, at least temprarily


thanks... reason for it is that i need to basically impress some people if i am to get into grad school next year

Not sure how to make ships buyable.
I had some bugs to report, but I procrastinated, and now I can't
remember what they were for the life of me.... ^^
Fireskull is doing a tremendous job of ship sizes...
So, I guess I'll take a second crack at kats... no kitting tho ;-)

Oh, yeah, I remember the main bug I meant to report...
Every time I start the game, before giving me the screen where you see the base and the ship on the launch pad, well, first of all, it always gave me a shot of flying in space, which I was never sure whether it was a bug or it was intentional, but... Now it gives me a shot of being in space but the ship oscillates wildly. I wasn't even going to report it since it seemed it didn't affect the game afterwards; but then it did: I took an escort mission from Midgard I think it was, ant the merchant tarsus I was supposed to meet was there in orbit, but it was stuck; it could never follow me to the jump point. Sometimes it would move a bit around the planet but never leave orbit; and sometimes it would vibrate wildly.

As I have said before, I am busy to the point that things are just ridiculous. I am not whinning or anything, I -am- almost unbelievably busy.

And so, I -will- finish ship sizes, but I wont even touch on them until this weekend. If you guys are playing WCU and strumble upon these ships, try to take a moment of your time and write down their IG size for me.

*Victory carrier
*Gilgamesh
*Kilrathi Carrier ( Bhantkara )
*Waterloo
*Clydesdale
*Anything else you realise inst in my list.

if we miss a cap ship, it will look like a dwarf near the correctly sized ones.

Spirit: For your final alpha release, dont forget to check on those last 3 capships you added around patch 11 ( waterloo, clydesdale and another one which I dont remember ) as they arent showing up in my game. I have even downloaded the bigzip file again, but to no use.

*By the way guys, add the Fralthi to your "I must texture this" list. It has no textures right now. The old drayman model looks a bit out of place too.. but not as bad.

Bugs???

Well i have every thing up to patch 13 i think it is,

The jump points now appear as blurs, to me at least (i do have to set the graphics very low maby it is that?)

and the biggest problem is that there seems to be something wrong with the way ships are launched from scripted carriers in new constant and perry. I can (sometimes) jump into the systems, but if an enemy shows up it crashes almost immediatly, i figured it must be when escorts are launched from the carriers, (no problem from the bases). But essentially it crashes 90% of the time i try and jump into new constant or Perry.

I cheat and fly military ships now and then, (awsome cockpits for confed ships, whoever did them), problem is i cant see which guns are selected in most of them (sabre and steleto definitly).

i sometimes found that my faction rateing would remain even though i loaded another game.

I still seem to be takeing dammage whilst docked (and hearing everything), this gets really annoying.

No voices, no matter what i do.


And more of a request. Can we make the nav map more readible? if you buy all the systems it is almost impossible to find where you want to go.

I noticied a slower perfomance for me too, I had to lower details a bit.

About captains problem with carriers.

I have noticied that when a carrier engages in battle the game freezes for a few moments. I guess its the AI turning all turrets on at once while launching fighters.

About caernavens

They seen to spin around when engaged.. quite weird capship behavior.

Ahhh... I see. I *have* a caernaven, so maybe that wild vibration I see has something to do with its physics or AI...

I have just read your post above Chuck.

I dont fly a caernaven, but I get the same bug with other fighter ships. I am at space, I get the initial IG messages ( welcome to wcu! and whatnot ) my ships oscilates wildly and then I am transported to the base I should be at.

I thought Spiritplumber just wanted to have those messages show up at the beginning of the game, it didnt really look like a bug to me.

The AI problem I saw with caernavens inst about them oscilating widly... they just spin. Yes spin, rotate.. as if they were trying to avoid being shoot only thing is that they dont change direction as a fighter would. If they begin rotating to the left, they will go on and on.

On some occasion a caernaven or a venture will think it's a bomber (and thus have better acceleration than it really has). Sorry about this.

Anyways, spirit, so I suppose you didn't like my kat bar...

Is it because you want kats to sit on chairs? I can put the tables back.
BTW, one thing kats should add to every sentence, at bases, is,
"Herbivore, you should wear a mask. You make me salivate."
And there should be a 'carnivore_mask' you can buy, and once you buy it they don't bother you with it anymore. ;-)

EDIT:
Don't know why these things happen to me. I removed the cushions from the bar image, just painted the floors and walls over them, of course; and now I wanted to smooth the jaggy edges, so I click on the smudge tool in Gimp and iit didn't work. I tried different rates and opacities and brush types, nothing. I tried flatten image, tried saving as a bmp and reloading, and nothing. Closed Gimp and started it again. Nothing.
Shut down the computer and started it again, Nothing.
Finally I downloaded a new version of GTK and Gimp, uninstalled the old, reinstalled the new... Same problem!!!
I need a drink...

That oscillation thing is due to the all-new physics queue, which takes some time to update bases (and thus docking state). The oscillation got fixed in the latest CVS, I think (or didn't I commit it? don't remember). But the delay during which it shows your ship in space is still there, and will take some hard work to get rid of.

Encountered a crashing problem when carrying out rescue missions, but worked around it by reverting to the old rescue.py
