Windows 7 compatiblity

Post by Dromon »

The 5.1 version of vega strike goes into a silent crash when run on both 32 bit and 64 bit version. The program displays a black screen and the just closes by itself. I tried using compatibility mode as well as running as an admin but to no avail. No matter which graphic setting I chose it just crashes. I would appreciate if a patch will be made for this. I read about the svn but a small introduction will help.

Welcome Dromon I have had no issues with the 32 bit version on my Win7 32 bit install. Please see if you can find stdout.txt and stderr.txt that should give me much more information on exactly what is happening they should be in the appdata store some place.

Enjoy the Choice :)

Here are the files you requested.
stderr.txt
stdout.txt
I also attached a dxdiag
DxDiag.txt
file, just in case you find it useful.
I have run it as an admin as well in compatibility mode. :(
I know it is not much of a hardware issue because vegastrike 5.0 runs on my pc on medium 'voodoo" settings. I am going to try out the svn version of vegastrike, to see if it works. The problem being that I am a bandwidth guy and cannot download the entire 800+ mb download.
Here is my second question.
I downloaded 5.1 setup of the game. Can I use it instead of the setup mentioned in the svn download. Since we can chose the files we download. :)

I think this may be the source of the problem found in stderr

Code: Select all

Attempt to call ReadFull on a bad file units.csv -1 F:\Program Files\Vega Strike/units/units.csv
units.cvs is where we describe all the the ships bases and planets in game in 5.1 it is one file while in the svn we have split up into logical parts to make it a bit easier to edit for humans what that means for you is can you check in the units folder if you have separate files armors.csv,capacitors.csv or just one file called units.csv and have you unzipped the python27.zip as mentioned in the readme.

Enjoy the Choice :)

I have a single units.csv file. The game I am currently running is a standard download and not a svn. There is no python zip file in the directory however there is a python27.dll file in the directory so I suppose everything is in it's place.

Here's one just unzip it into the \units folder of your install let me know if it works as I have a few others that may work.
