Old Derivative

Hi all,
I want to ask if there is a way to get the old design of the Derivative vessel back? I mean I don't want to cause offence to the designer of the new Derivative vessel,but I just personally liked flying around the Vegastrike universe in the old design.

Thank you for the reply. I'm still a bit clueless on where to find the old design of the derivative. I've had a quick look at the svn history that gets displayed on the Vegastrike main page,but I couldn't really see anything.

Granted, the web interface is awful.

But you can go to the release tags, and you'll find it in the 4.x releases.

The trouble is Vegastrike will refuse to load the old model:

I've renamed the new Derivative model as a .old and tried to copy what was in the new model folder to the old derivative model. I also did a fresh re-compile to make sure the code found the new addition.

I hope someone can help me.

No idea, but if it have "derivative/derivative" and can't find "Derivative/Derivative", try to rename case-sensitively?

What for? It's data. I'd understand deleting contents of .vegastrike/generatedbsp cache (if any)...

The only other file that should need changing is units.csv all references to the derivative would need to be changed.

Hi all,
I've followed Loki1950's advice and edited the units.csv file to include the old derivative model.
Something has gone wrong though,when I load vegastrike, the original derivative ship doesn't appear,or the outposts and other models.

My units.csv is attached to this post.

You can't change the name (key) of the unit in units.csv. If you do, all the mission and universe scripts will error out.

You have to maintain the original key ("Derivative" with a capital D) and just change the reference to the bfxm file.

So shall I make a new entry for the old derivative model? or shal I insert a duplicate entry in between the new Derivative model?

I assumed you wanted to replace the new Derivative with the old. In that case, in the entry for the "Derivative" just change the "Derivative.bfxm" to point to the old one.

If you want to add it, it would be more involved.

I just unpacked into .../units/vessels/Derivetive then renamed bfxm and spr files to Derivative.bfxm and Derivative-hud.spr - and it loads correctly.

Hi all,
I had done a replace of the new derivative to the old one,and renamed quite a few files to "Derivative" The trouble is, Vegastrike is getting stuck on loading watsonGLO.jpg and it comes out with these errors:

You accidentally messed some xml file (replaced it with an html file).

<sigh> files refer to each other. Try to check whether it works with the old one and then start with what works for me? Three renames, the first letter in uppercase. Then try to modify it further.

Hi all,
I want to thank everybody trying to help me out. I am almost there from everybody's advice. The old Derivative model is showing as white (screenshots will be attached).
I want to apologize for the confusion of trying to add the model instead of just replacing the new Derivative model for the old one :oops:

I'm guessing it cannot find the texture files. Why, I cannot guess.
