Can't move forward/accelerate

Hey guys. I just downloaded Vega Strike because I thought it looked really cool. Once I tried playing it, however, I realized that the controls indicated in the user manual for changing the velocity don't work. I can do everything except move forward. When I try increasing the velocity, the numbers go up, by I don't move at all. The only way I've been able to move a little bit was by using 'A' to follow a target, that's it. I would really like to play the game, so if you know what's happening, please help me!
