I enjoy VS very much. However, I do not have the knowledge required to really contribute. I have no artistic ability. So I would like to start by learning python. I am looking at OGRE tutorials as well. Any suggestions on where to start would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Ubuntu 11.04 64bit
p.s. What packages would I need as well. Which version of python?
Thanks

As far OGRE is concerned, I'd expect you should talk to one of the OGRE project guys - they'll have the best idea of what needs doing.
Python, if I remember correctly, has a specific syntax/sub-language (if that is the right term for it) that is used for gaming, I think it's called 'bu' or something, but I'm no coder, so you should probably verify that.
I suppose the logical place to begin would be with basic python coding tutorials, get an understanding and feel for it, etc and go from there. But definitely check out the OGRE thread and get info from the OGRE guys.

While learning to code, you might consider other forms of contribution, like... *drum roll for the incoming shameless plug* voice acting!

Thanks for the information. I have been reading the ogre threads. As for voice acting, I guess I could give it a shot. Dont know where to start though.

Thanks a lot for considering it, here are a few useful pointers:Clint_Thomas wrote:As for voice acting, I guess I could give it a shot. Dont know where to start though.
The Music and Sound Collaboration forum section hosts quite a few threads about voice acting, but the currently best organized resource is the Wiki page from the Voice Acting section. The section titled "Creating the Voice for the Ship's Translator" lists the chain of audio filters we used to create the typical radio effect, but don't worry if can't go that far; I can do all the needed post-processing on your clean recordings in that case.
