Game Crashes all the Time - Windows 7

First, sorry about my English, i am from Germany.
I tried to play Privateer Gold 1.03 over the privateer.exe in the bin-Folder.

To my Problem:
At first all looks fine, but when i Launch to Space after a short while, the Window freeze completely. And if i launch, set a Nav Point, and type A for autopilot, its freezes immediately.


Now, i read some of the Forum-entries and i know that i have to post 2 Files (Crash-Files?) but when i searching the Folder for vserr or the other file, i found nothing? Where are they and is that the correct name of that files?#

I hope someone could help me, because Privateer (the old Original Game) was always a nice Game, and i want to play it again :)

If it's a hard crash (ie: it brings up the dialog that the program misbehaved and it had to be killed or whatever Win 7 uses nowadays), it's also very useful if you can download a free debugger and post a stacktrace.

In any case, you should first follow the following checklist:
  • Update your graphics drivers. VS tends to bring the worst of them.
  • If the problem persists, disable shaders (using vssetup.exe/setup.exe)
  • If the problem persists, disable sounds and music both
  • If the problem persists, set all quality settings to maximum, except shaders and audio, leave them disabled (I know, one would think minimum, but nope... maximum, there have been reports of bugs in lower detail levels).

Even with all changes, the programm still freezes.

How exactly does it freeze? Does it respond to anything? Does it still play music?

One more test to make:

In this thread some issues were exacerbated by playing in windowed mode.

Are you playing in windowed mode all the time (as seen in the screenshot)? Did you try setting it to full screen?

Compositing (desktop effects, which are heavy-duty in Windows 7) involves a performance penalty in most hardware, quite heavy if the GPU is low-end, and sometimes (as in the linked thread) fatal if the drivers are low-quality.

Yes, i played first in Fullscreen, but there was no chance to make a screen, so i tryed it in Windowed-Mode to make the Screenshot, this problem occurs in both Modes.

Uhm. Are you running win64 build of game? Running 32 bit game on 64 bit system can cause problems. Since you have Win 7 Ultimate, you have virtual windows XP mode, try getting win32 build and run it via this.
