Re: changing transport costs
In the feature requests forum, there has been a lot of discussion about changing the transport costs to be more realistic, such as factoring in distances and the mass (base plus cargo) of the ship being transported. I'm not a coder, so I can't predict when such changes might be finished.

There are two speeds in combat: stopped, and as fast as you can go. Unless you run into something, going fast keeps you alive more often than stopping.

Re: changing transport costs
Actually, the fixed cost was changed to 50K in 0.5.0. At least, that's what it is in the Fedora package. A bit more of a pain in the pocketbook, I'll grant you, but it's probably the right thing to do. I see it as a sort of "cargo mission" YOU assign to someone else, and pay accordingly.
I would favor the proposed changes Turbo mentions, again, despite the pain, as the right, realistic thing to do. I've also considered the possibility of potential loss/damage in transport (Hey, it's a dangerous galaxy out there!). If we're going to get that cruel, though, I'd probably want an insurance option, too.

Re: changing transport costs
insurance option would be a good idea, like deducting ur money every time you go in within 24 hrs or something...
and yea... dangerous galaxies..
i got chased from one end (some aera system) to the other end (rlaan - all went after the aera).
i just wanted to have some fun by blowing up some aeras.. and i got... hell..
