mercator or map projection program??

Post by Duality »

Is there any programs that will distort images like this:

http://www.complang.tuwien.ac.at/~schan ... rcator.jpg

I spent hours and hours searching for a program and photoshop plug in that will do the distortion like this.

I need it for the nebulas i have in progress so I can have them sphere mapped.

I first tried to compile mathmap for myself, but it gave me too cryptic errors
So i searched a bit.

Have you tried this mathmap executable? :
http://wingimp.hp.infoseek.co.jp/files/plug-ins/
http://wingimp.hp.infoseek.co.jp/files/ ... athmap.exe

It actually works for me, though it is compiled for an older version of gimp (see page).

HTH

Only one question about sphere/cube mapping:

How big is the quality-difference between the two methods (i.e. "The Box")?

The reason i ask is simple:
*sphere -> more polygons -> slower (may not have such big an effect)
*cube -> less polygons -> faster

The spheric way is the easiest way for me to make nebulas for me atm.

Eventhough its slower though.. its the only drawback..
