Help needed finding image files.
Now that I have downloaded the newest version of VS I need help finding the image files I annually delete. I tried navigating through textures, cargo, and other folders, but can't find any image files that any of my programs can open to edit. Can someone help me find the right folders where all the images are kept?

Re: Help needed finding image files.
Textures are now in DDS format - you could download nVidia's DDS thumbnailer or the other many DDS texture tools they have from here.

Re: Help needed finding image files.
On Ubuntu/Debian the package gimp-dds will let you open the files in Gimp.
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install gimp-dds

Re: Help needed finding image files.
If you still have the .5 installer you can always install it, find the images you dont want and then do a search for those names. I don't think the filename has changed only the extension (ie from png/jpg to texture/image) That would probably be the easiest way I would think, especially with the search feature in win 7. As for a dds viewer.. The nvidia website has one you can download then you can configure windows to open .texture and .image files with it. Don't have the apps name or link handy but google should know

Those are old tools, the thumbnail viewer may not work with win7. Browse nvidia's developer tools site, I'm sure you'll find something useful.
In any case, as was said, the file names didn't change from 0.5.0, so if you have a list for 0.5.0 it should still be valid.

Re: Help needed finding image files.
The windows texture viewer works but only on files with a .dds extension I have found that Irfranveiw with the plug-in pack will open an show .dds file but it will ask you if you wish to change the extension just click no

Re: Help needed finding image files.
I redownloaded 5.0 and am going to look through the image files manually. I appreciate the help, but I try to keep a cap on how many and what driver software I install.
I'll see how this process does and go from there.

Re: Help needed finding image files.
Irfranveiw is not a driver it is an Image viewer application, drivers are software that interacts between the OS and hardware allowing them to work.On a developers site one must be precise with ones use of technical terms But if IIRC there has been a change in how the splash screen images are handled from simple image display to an animation so the image file names may well have changed as I can't seem to find one at all myself.
Edit: DOH!! found them C:\vegastrike\Vegastrike\VS13348\animations then in load_screen.ani and the major offending images files are splash_holovid,splash_pacifer

Re: Help needed finding image files.
So I am looking through the old vega strike [5.0] and none of the images are view-able which is weird because I have found and edited them before.
Even Adobe Bridge cant see whats up with any of the images, even jpgs and pngs.
Anyway, I deleted those images you recommended so hopefully that will do it for now. I just don't get how I can't view those .jpg images from the older VS install...
I got Infranview! Thanks! That helped a lot! A little tedious on install with finding right drivers and plugins to associate, but works nonetheless!

Good to hear. Whatever images you find and remove go ahead and post the names here so we can have a list for future reference.

Re: Help needed finding image files.
I have looked at all of the splash screen images and those two are the only ones questionable on the basis of sexual content, but a few others may offend political or religious zealots of various persuasions. But since they are part of the factional nature of our fictional universe deletion of which would be very problematic both code and story wise.In any case I will add them to the the feature request tracker item that does not exist as of yet

Oh no, the fictional indifference between factional political and religious views isn't a troubling matter.

Glad you think so Pirate but in various countries with polarized politics or religious environments satire of any kind may be dangerous to the player of the game.We here in the developed world are privileged in that regard.

Re: Help needed finding image files.
So long as the religious and political views are as fictional and un-relate-able to one specific as possible, the possibilities still stay pretty wide. I can see what you mean though.
