Working Video Cards?

Post by Guest (Another!) »

It'd be useful to everyone, I think, if we had a list of working video cards with Vega Strike (i.e. not with the annoying lack of a mouse cursor...)

So; to start us off...

Working

Useless

Hercules Kyro II 64MB

Anyone care to continue (Radeon 9200 info would be very appreciated!!!)

ATI Radeon 9500 Pro definately works fine.

Now that we have a new wiki for VS, perhaps we should put this info concerning working / non-working hardware there?

As far as I can tell, my Voodoo3 3000 16MB worked fine in my 533 MHz alpha box.
The last version I tested was CVS a little bit before 0.3.9.

I may rebuild my alpha box soon... I miss her ;)

Useless: Matrox 32Meg G450, linux.

Well that's a pretty big statement, but it's seems to crap to play at present.
I'll update this if I can get it working.

The Voodoo3 works quite decently if I turn off specular lighting, and go with "high detail" as opposed to "extreme detail". Really, the major bottleneck is the I/O done every time you load a new area. That could use a bit of optimizing, methinks. :)

Working under which OS???

Under Linux, all you should need is a working OpenGL implementation on your Linux box...

As for Windoze... it's anybody's guess. But nVidia has a unified driver model, which should mean that all programs that work with that driver should work with all the cards covered by it.

Not working:

Voodoo 4500, Windows 98SE

I haven't tried the suggested fix of deleting the mouse cursor files yet. I'll let you know if that works. I'd try it now but I've got a download going and so far Vegastrike tends to do bad things to my system.

Edit: Nope, sorry, the mouse cursor thing didn't work.

Yep, got the patch. What would be preferable? Software, I presume.

NOW HEAR THIS....
ALL HANDS ON DECK!!!! ALL ENGINES STOP!!!!! CHANGE THE LIST........

What my brain says:
{
Worked: :D
ATI rage 128 pro.
this was, I think, the first video card to sport 32m ram It worked almost as good as the geforce2 I have now.
}

REALITY CHECK:
{
OOPS ... sorry :roll: my bad
Worked: ATI xpert 128.
I ran it with a 256 swap on 800x600 w/reflective light and med detail.
This card only had 16m ram, I could have sworn it had 32
Wierd how easy it is to forget specs on 5 year old hardware.
BUT, it still was almost as good as the geforce. It was a smokin' card, back in the day.
}
