Deleting the manifest was apparently the wrong thing to do. Do a SVN Update and it should come back.
This was a VC8 binary and for the past month (or two) there has been a VC7 version in subversion--make sure you have run the "VC8 Runtime Libraries Installer" which is included in the "bin" folder.
There is definately something wrong with the vegastrike.exe. I installed the VCredist from the bin-dir, which was 2005SP1, that i already had installed before. So i tried VCredist2008 from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/than ... layLang=de. Nothing worked. always getting a runtime-error at starup.
[Edit]
okay... since i made the .manifest executeable it works...
which version of Windows are you running? With XP pro it's no problem... just try the "security"-tab(? don't know how it is exactly titled in the english version) . With XP home the rights management is not visible... blame M$..
But you can upgrade the rightsmanagement with "FaJo XP FSE" (search google to find a download-location) which makes the home-edition look and behave like the pro-version. alternatively you can use the command-prompt-tool chmod which is a *nix port.
"chmod a +x vegastrike.exe.manifest" should do the trick..
