Radeon 9600 Pro under Windows 2000:
Works mostly fine. Minor anoyances:
- A white rectangle in the rear view
- sometimes there is a weird looking exhaust(?) from other ships' engines. Not sure if the latter is a graphics card bug.
Marginally usable:
Matrox G 400 under Windows 98. Problems:
-No mouse cursor on bases
-Poor frame rate
-Works only in fullscreen mode. If the game is running in a window, graphics are turning to gibberish. Re-maximizing doesn't help to restore graphics

erratum: VegaStrike is runnung on a Radeon 9500 Pro (128MB) under linux 2.4.21, X server fglrx 2.9.13 (FireGL driver from ATI) both in fullscreen and windowed mode, however only when sound is disabled ("No Sound"). The motherboard is an "ASUS A7N8X" (nforece2, non-deluxe). All graphical options seem to work, I could not spot any visual artifacts.

Intel(r) 82810 Graphics controler 4.12.01.2576
I have an Intel(r) 82810 Graphics controler 4.12.01.2576 and I was wondering if the card would work w/ Vega Strike or not.

Matrox MG400 on w2k: somewhat working
Card : Matrox Millenium G400 32MB
OS : W2K sp4
Driver version : 5.91.008
Opengl version : 1.1
Vegastrike version : 0.4.1
Mouse cursor is visible with hardware cursor on AND mousefix patched exes(posted elsewhere)
No scrollbar or window border on cargo, weapon, mission screen(you have to guess-click to scroll)
When you click "option" button, only menu texts is overwritten on the screen without popup box(you can click buttons though)
Some elements missing on flight view(no target view.. just name, no hull&shields view, no blended effects like nebula etc.)
In general, there seems to be problems with overlapped or alpha blended textures and I am wondering if this has to do with opengl version.
Seems to me that matrox card up to g550 will exhibit same problems if vegastrike needs higher opengl version support.(matrox only provide opengl v1.1 ICD on these cards - v1.3 for pahelia though)

Radeon 9000 PRO
Add Radeon 9000 PRO as working almost OK
The one proviso is I am having to run it in windowed mode, and still can't get the text of any conversations in the bar - it clips off the top of the screen!
(Catalyst 3.10, W98SE)

well you can just change vegastrike.conifg so your screen is just a LITTLE bit shorter in the vertical direction
so that the window decorations( read title bar) fits along with the text

I tried editing the section
===============================================
These line set the currently used settings. This allows them to show up as selected (currently enclosed in [])
#set Video TNT
#set Resolution 800x600
===============================================
in vegastrike.config but it didn't make any difference at all to the screen size. Maybe the Launcher overides it??
While doing this I found that I couldn't access that file after running VS, "in use by another application", found soundserver in my task list after VS has supposedly shut down and exited.
Aha! This will relate to the fact that I have never heard any music.
(I suspect I shouldn't be here but in a bugs / installation forum!)

That line is in the comment section of the XML
the only XML that is read is
<var name=" x_resolution" value="800" ...
look for stuff that looks HTMLish
the other comments about screen resolution and set are to help the graphical interface modify the XML... it's stupid yes
but easy to edit too--just only edit the actual values in quotes "800"

My Matrox G450 works
I'm new to vegastrike. Contrary to the earlier poster and the wiki, vegastrike seems to work well with my Matrox G450.
System specs:
AMD Duron 1GHz
Abit KT-7 RAID motherboard
256 MB RAM
Matrox G450 AGP video card
Operating system:
Knoppix 3.2 (Debian) Linux. Before installing Knoppix to the harddrive, I booted the Knoppix CD with the bootcode "knoppix xmodule=mga" to enable the Matrox mga video module instead of the default vesa module. Knoppix installs to the harddrive with the mga module and XF86Config-4 automatically configured for hardware 3D acceleration under the Mesa OpenGL libraries.
My framerate under glxgears is around 600-650 fps (it's slow, but that is expected for this card with 3D acceleration enabled).
Installation:
After editing /etc/apt/sources.list to add the ftp.us.debian.org mirror, I simply did "apt-get update && apt-get install vegastrike".
I then ran vsinstall to configure the video settings. Since the Matrox G450 is an older card, I set the video detail level to "low" and the resolution to 640x480. My framerate with these settings was 30-50 fps.
DISCLAIMER: I've only just started with vegastrike, and have only played it a couple of minutes (flying the starship around). I'll post further if I run into any problems with my video.
Thanks for the great game. Vegastrike is a worthy successor to Elite and Privateer.

Glad you like it
let us know how it goes!
and I'm really happy it works nicely on your video card
if you can ever afford an ole geforce style card it'll fly on high detail too

I have a Kyro II *sob*
Just picked this game up and was blown away
THEN I discovered one or two problems, and on checking found it doesn't work too well with my video card (yes, I have a Kyro II 64 Mb) althought the graphics seem to be ok, it's the sound thats a bit erratic!
Do I REALLY have to buy another video card *sigh* or is there something I can do?? If so, any recommendations? (< 100 quid!)
Keep up the good work (if I can get it to work might even help with the project!)
Cheers
Chris

sound shouldn't be related to video
try turning off sound and only playing with music
getting a new vidcard won't help sound
try buying a sound blaster Live!
that seems to be the only decent option these days

VegaStrike problems...
Well, I disabled the on board sound card and reinstalled a Sound Blaster Live as suggested - sound is still flaky (intermittant)
Graphics being a bit iffy and sound a bit iffy has tempered my entusiasm a bit, I'll try having a poke around in the BIOS over the weekend
(Motherboard is an Abit KV7, CPU an Athlon 2600+, AGP a Hercules Kyro II 64Mb and sound card a Sound Blaster Live - should be up to it!??)
Cheers
