New Chris Roberts game in the works??
Yes, Chris Roberts (aka Mr Privateer himself) seems to be working on a new space sim. Check it out here: http://robertsspaceindustries.com/

Yes... I got myself a golden ticket!
What are the odds Linux will be supported?
I never tried those other space traders but I saw Outlander and apparently he's one of the producers:

Saw trailer. Good looks. It doesn't show much about gameplay though - I imagine there's no "game" yet. Just an engine that lets you walk and fly around.

Release is still two years away. They seem, given what Mr. Roberts said and the forum discussions prior to the announcement, that it is what VS dreams to be. But, it's pre-alpha now, so engine and spaceflight is all I expect now.

Well they seem to have shortcut the engine side of it by using CryEngine 3.

Yep, did not want to waste time reinventing the wheel. Two to three years is all Chris likes to spend on a game. Rather develop content and play style.

Oh, if all you have seen is the "theatrical" trailer, check out the sales pitch one! Far better in my estimation.

Actually cryengine may just have been used for a tech demo rather than what would actually be used. I know when the first Mechwarrior 5 trailer was released it used the Unreal engine to showcase how the gameplay would look

one other thought.. also in the video, the carrier has 7 million polies and the fighter has roughly 300k. Thats some high end models. Wonder if the final game data will be a tenth of that using normal maps and/or tessellation.

Re: New Chris Roberts game in the works??
Not sure what you mean, but I'm quite sure they're using tesselation and displacement maps for that high poly count, and I'm also pretty sure they won't support low-end (or perhaps not even current mid-range) systems.pheonixstorm wrote:one other thought.. also in the video, the carrier has 7 million polies and the fighter has roughly 300k. Re: New Chris Roberts game in the works??
@ Gonzo,
Currently not looking to port to Mac/Linux as yet. Main sticking point re Linux is that the cry3 engine doesn't support it (yet) - from what I remember reading on the forums before they went down. CR is open to the port if cry3 will support it - watch the space...
@travists
Hullo, saw several of your posts on the forum, never connected you to VS! Heya. Ex-VS regular here (only log in once in a blue moon nowadays... 2 young kids means I'm asleep not long after getting home from work...)
