What du you think about letting new Members write some kind of application.
Then some Mod or Admin ought to activate the account manually.

I ask this, because I deleted more spam today than every befor!

I just changed it so now they have to validate the e-mail address. Lets see if it works better. Also I found a tool that I can go through and delete users and posts in one shot. Right now I am deleting all accounts over six months old that have no posts and were only logged in the day that the account was created. This is about 600 accounts. There are probably another 200 accounts that are also spam, but they only have one message.

Dont be supprised if you see the number of reg users and posts going down

But what's up with this "abolakomadic" guest? I thought we disabled guest posting and made a special "guest" account.

Dont scare me like that, that was done prior to the news e-mail setup. the Guest account should be disabled. I donâ€™t know the exactly how, but I think it might be a direct SQL injections or we have open forums. i.e. forums that anyone even non reg can post to.

Good. SQL injection would be bad. Really bad.
Only an upgrade to newer phpBB versions would fix that.

I'm quite new here, and I'm really pissed off with the
"abolakomadic" guest, he also wrote in the translation part of the forum:

But I also started as a guest, I think the thread was " If some factions hate me...."

In how many forums, you have to be a member, if you just want to post one reply to just one thread?
So I think, the answers of guests have to be controlled, but let them tell their opinion.

Btw@Spaceman Spiff, can you speak german?
If yes, please have a look to my version of master_part_list.deutsch.csv in the translation part and correct me, if I made mistakes.

If you can find the thread, I would be more then willing to delete the post.
Again hopefully now that you have to register and have a valid e-mail address, most of the spamming should stop.

FYI

Phase one of the spam cleanup is done. All users that have accounts that have not returned to visit after 6 months (January 1, 2006) and have 0 posts have been deleted. Those that are over the six month time I check to see if it was spam and removed them accordingly. I have also re-synched the posts counts for all users.

I have now started phase two to go though existing posts (people that only posted once or twice) and delete them and the thread if its spam.

If you see the number of posts and users go down this is normal. The site is not being hacked.

What do you mean by lurkers? I just talking about people who registered way back when that never poster a single message would be removed. Also I am looking at the last time they visited. You have nothing to fear because your post counts are over the minimum range
