Let the flames roll in...
Err... yeah, well I suppose you can talk about other stuff as well, maybe?

Outdated / broken Links

Post by private_lock »

Hello @ll!

Can please someone work on the links?

The topmost menubar referes to:
http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/mission.html
Which in return links to really old stuff:
http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/vsdb/
April 2002 is not state of the art ...

And the mission has been rewritten anyway:
http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/wiki/ ... ke:Mission

The Files section:
http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/files/index.html
misses the datapatch for beeing able to tractor cargo in 0.4.3
and perhaps a link to the pdf manual:
http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/* ... _Guide.pdf
with the hint, that it is included in the 0.4.3 download

In the Gallery the menu bar is missing completely. Once on:
http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/gallery2/
you feel like you left vegastrike's homepage.

Actually the sourceforge project page:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/vegastrike
has similar bugs.

The manual there (labeled docs)
http://sourceforge.net/docman/?group_id=19507
Is advertising an outdated version of the ./documentation/readme.txt shipped with 0.4.3 it seems:
http://sourceforge.net/docman/display_d ... p_id=19507

In the screenshots, there definitely needs to be a link to the gallery:
http://sourceforge.net/project/screensh ... p_id=19507

And at least one representative screenshot, because that one will be used by default in sourceforge internal searches which is how I found out about you. I guess VS could attract more people if it had a screenshot there.

http://sourceforge.net/softwaremap/trov ... orm_cat=80
Just search for 'strike' and compare the representation of all those counterstrike remakes with vegastrike. Text only; doesn't it look boring?

Finally people love to see progress! I just read through the comments:
http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/index ... s=1&id=155
Would it be possible to include the summary from:
http://svn.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.cgi/vegastrike/
in an iframe right below the latest release on the homepage? This should calm all those questions about the projects potential death, if everybody sees there has been recent work in the last days or even hours.

Alltogether I consider this the SPEC drive for VegaStrike PublicRelations. Of course the jump drive would be a new official release :-)

OK, thats about it for now ...

As much of this stuff as possible should be wikified, and the static pages could be archived for historical purposes. As you pointed out, wikified versions of many pages already exist, so we just need to have someone change the links. I may be able to do it myself if I get approval from an admin, but it might be safer if someone with more experience on the vs website does it.

As to the gallery- I've had experience with customizing gallery templates, but I had the notion that the current website theme was on the way out, so I haven't bothered offering my services until the next layout is finalized.

The SF.net project page is hardly customizeable, but I agree that we can improve it slightly if we play by their rules.
