That can not be real! Realistically, it must at least be color-enhanced. I've never seen anything like that.

Looking at it, I just don't believe that's a natural image.

Too much detail in the sea - what are those bevelled ridges south-west of Spain?

Also the difference between light and dark is not right. Particularly around the Netherlands and the northern tip of France, the transition from day to night looks like two badly overlaid images.

If this is a picture from the Columbia, why is it not hosted on Nasa's site?

It looks like the n00b got his thumb into the lens by accident,I've done that a couple of times before.

Ya, it isn't real. It's a composite, and this is only part of it. I've got the full image (it's of the whole earth) somewhere ... used to have it as a background :-)

That's done usining the NASA textures, like the ones I was using in my "shady planet" demo thread, the experiment using shaders, but higher res. You can download earth textures up to 400 megs in size; and they have better ones yet, on request. The features in the water are simply water color averaged over time. It took NASA many years to average many pics, to get light-source independant (i.e. ambient like lighting) color information, AND cloudlessness. The pic is a fake for sure; there's NEVER a day with no clouds at all over so much expanse. The city lights texture is also from NASA.
There's one program I know of that could have generated this: The Space Station Manager, which uses Ogre3D as back-end renderer; even though it's a commercial program. They have a free demo, though. The day/night transition is definitely not right.

Peanut Gallery? You're being too kind.

Besides, having a wank like that around might be nice...we're all so unified against him, we tend to forget our own differences :D It's like a red-headed stepchild situation.

(all apologies to any redheads who might also be someone's stepchild. ..unless MadCow is one, in which case my insult still stands.)

I propose giving him an "official" permanent rank:

"Official Vega Strike Troll"

I've stopped playing. I'm waiting for a new release.

I've kicked the MMO habit for now, but if I maintain enough money for an EVE-Online subscription, I'll be gone again.

My suggestion is "n00b". Since it's a word he (an assumption, but he IS showing very much male behaviour") seems to like.

And I was so sad the other thread was closed one day :-( Never got to tell MadCow how bad a troll he is. Now it's my chance at last!
AFAIK, etymologically the word "Troll" for internet trolls is derived from trolling (the fishing), which means raising as much attention and quarrels without too much effort. Which didn't work in his last big thread, after he silenced people began discussing creatively about this and that, so that this would-be-troll had to come back to start the discussion again...

Ok, that's it, slightly OT, even in this forum.
Whoever finds some irony tags may keep them.

I'd go for an uninvolved approach. A form-letter warning from admins, then a temporary ban, then a permanent (IP?) ban. Special efforts made to educate the community to ignore provoking first posts along the lines of "your game stinks, heed me, I know better".

Noone should be ignored until they ignore you back. Like MadCow did (by never listening).

I felt exactly like chuck_starchaser, when we wrote:

That's a propper answer, but it shouldn't come before its time. And, when he posted, its time had come.

As I recall, I just ignored him at the time because I couldn't really make sense of what he wrote, and didn't feel like starting a futile discussion. I assumed chuck meant the same. ;)

1-10 posts - N00B
11-50 - Idiot
51-150 - Laughing Stock
151-300 - Troll
301+ - Comic Relief
