I have found the site i used years ago to build a 3d interactive view of the gliese star catalog :
And the database i used was : http://astronexus.com/node/34

The kind of info you bring is useful dear TBeholder .

So his site is very cool too , with a lot of info and scifi links : http://www.projectrho.com/public_html/starmaps/"Hard" SF writers and interstellar game designers need reasonably accurate 3-D starmaps in order to set the stage. This webpage is a feeble attempt to assist those who lack the knowledge (or inclination) to do the work themselves. You don't have any excuse now, I've done most of the work for you! If nothing else, grab the maps!
