Better wingman control

Post by Iain »

Some of the things I would like to try require better wingman control.

Say I want a wall of goddards to launch a salvo of torpedos all at once. It would look impressive and probably do some serious damage.

I would also like to be able to control a fleet of capships, and do a fleet on fleet engagement. One could either control the fleet or fly in a fighter.

Lots of work involved in that request not just the commands the AI would need a complete rework but it needs that anyway

Enjoy the Choice :)

Ah, Ok.

How can I help?
It seems to me that wingmen don't work together, and often times they don't work at all.

One thing I love is strategy games. Sure, being one lone pilot is fun, but there are times when I want to be able to bring in, say, ten Kahans, and get them all to launch a full salvo of missiles all at once. Maybe have an Aeran fleet receive this salvo and dish out its own.

There are no games out there that let you order individual units around. Heck, AI for just one battleship would be rather complicated. Try a whole fleet. To make it easier, though, divide up the AI as in real life. Have an overall AI commander that does the overall strategy. It tells subordinate AI what to do, and this subordinate AI, like the captain of a ship, figures out how to do it. This way the AI for a ship type could be done individually, then everything could be plugged together.

Since I really can't do enough C++ to code stuff like this myself, I could bang out some pseudo code that someone else could translate?

If i remember correctly several of the AI functions are Python or the control handles for the exported C++ functions the Python functions are mostly data side so you should have copies in the modules folder someplace sorry i can't be more useful.
