I have 2 ideas for the online play when it ever gets finished. First is insurance. Suppose you get into a fight and you excape or die and your ship is destroyed. Suppose you pay a insurance and when you start again you can pay a percentage of the total worth of your ship to get it back with all the mods done to it? It just doesn't seem fair to get blown up and 5 minutes later be running the same ship or die and lose everything.
Second comes to escape pods. What happens if someone picks you up and gives you a ride to a near by base? Also what if your stuck in a system all alone with no bases? Maybe give the escape pod a single jump capabilty so they can get to a sector with a base, planet or at least a ship to give you a ride

So my idea is that the player will choose when to save his game. Every time he docks to a base, he can click on the Net Play menu item and choose "save".
Currently, the server occasionally saves all alive players. There's no penalty for dying at the moment... you just respawn with everything you just had.
So it's not yet perfect for a network game, but at least there's always options for forward progress by earning money.
