Simple: ability to put a computer through its paces with Vegastrike-a very precise sequence of events, like in an FPS.
Reason: So sites like Phronix can benchmark it, and everyone knows this is a serious game.

Re: Benchmarking Capability
I think we already have a feature request for this.

Re: Benchmarking Capability
Can be done.
- To make it fairly deterministic, we need a mission file with some or other non-connected system (there are some in sectors/test/ and sectors/Special/ already - maybe just place a few more cool looking things in Modelview?) and controlled spawning, have all mobile units spawn with sessile AI, e.g. "sitting_duck" (see the first FG in mission/test/battleroyale.mission).
- Make a python script run the ship through this. May be bothersome unless someone remembers how to do it, but still definitely possible. May be run from separate file (see mission/test/quest_dispute.mission and modules/quests/quest_dispute.py) or integrated into mission file.
- Make a shortcut for ".../VegaStrike/vs.sh mission/benchmark.mission", maybe a separate splashscreen too... have fun.

Re: Benchmarking Capability
Yeah, what's missing is a way for a python script to control the camera.
