The stock mule comes with a warp capacitor that can't store enough energy for the ship to jump. At first glance this wouldn't be a problem, only a minor annoyance as the player is forced to remain with his secondary ship and go to a system where better capacitors are available. Even so, this would be a unnecessary and time consuming hunt as those capacitors can be hard to find.
But, I can see a scenario where the player is left stuck in a system, having bought a mule that can't jump and sold his old ship.Though I believe the jump drive should still be bought as an add on, I think the stock mule should come with whatever level of capacitor ( I am unsure if it would be level two or three ) necessary for it to jump.

BTW you can not sell your beginning ship so there is always a fall back so find the required capacitor have your crippled Mule shipped to you transfer to it and buy the capacitor.
