Resolution and aspect ratios

I'm working blindly, here, as I hang on to my trusty, beloved 19" NEC MultiSync 95 CRT while the rest of the world moves to LCD.
So I can't see what I'm doing; and just have to rely on user feedback. The feedback is not good, tho...

This is what I've done with vegastrike.config for PU:

And this is the feedback:
gorbalad wrote:1680x1050 in flight, 1280x1024 for bases - switching works great, but in flight everything simply gets stretched to fit the screen. the lock box around a jumppoint is a rectangle, not a square, and the jumppoint itself is an ellipsoid instead of a sphere. - setting aspect to 3 (from 1.6) changes exactly nothing. I think something is not really working as it should - Gotta switch back to 1280x1024 for now. :(

PS: I did delete my old vegastrike.config, of course.
Any pointers for what I may be doing wrong?
