A list of appropriate stuff

Post by SolusLunes »

I figured that since I have about 60-ish songs in the list on Newgrounds, I'd filter them out for music that simply isn't going to fit in with VS.

So I'll just drop a short list of what might fit. You are, of course, welcome to browse the whole thing at soluslunes.newgrounds.com/audio.

But my recommendations are:

Endless Space: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/74946

Is This Death: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/112442

Glowing Lights: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/108164

Crystalline: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/77781
ver. 2: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/79451
ver. 3: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/87228

Flying In The Rain: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/83655

A Samurai's Lament: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/109105

For Schala: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/99398

Almost all of those can be modified as needed.

Plus, since I own the licenses, I'll let you use them under such terms as:

Use them for whatever game you want, let people rip them out of Vega Strike and use them in other games, post them onto your personal webpage and say "OMG THEZE ARE AWSUM" (no one's stopping you. Go on, do it.). Pretty much anything but "HAY LOOK I MAED THIS AND ARE GOING TO SELL IT ON CD." All I ask is for attribution.

Also. One more thing. I'm sure I could get at least 5 or so high-quality tracks from Newgrounds, if I were to run a contest for it. All I ask is for your guys' backing, because if you guys are cool with it, I'll start the contest at the beginning of February.

Solus, you got some amazing skills, very nice songs. i listened to all you posted there. I really liked the Endless space, Cristalive ver.1 and For Schala.
Not really a musical person myself. but i think the Endless space is definatly a go for VS, good luck and keep up the good work. Lets see what the Big guys say about it.

(an aside: In the amusing world that is tabbed browsing and auto-play features, I ended up listening to both crystal shards and crystalline (final) at the same time for a while. The experience was not in any way unpleasant. As the songs have slightly different lengths, the phase shift on looping made for an interesting twist -- but this is all a digression :) )

You know, I've never done that before. I think I'll try it out.

(fwiw in this little experiment, I thought the overlap was most effective when the two songs were ~2 minutes out of phase)

Try End In Fire - http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/120752

That's the first song I made with VS in mind.

Hi Solus,

You definitely have talent, as the others have said. You have a good handle on the dramatic elements of music, from what I've heard.

The only thing that is perhaps holding you back at the moment is that the timbre of electronic instruments can be a little restrictive as it limits the emotional expression that can take place. Human beings still IMO relate more closely to acoustic instruments on an emotional level, and that's why film scores use acoustic instruments in the foreground and electronic instruments more as accompaniment.

You have a fresh sound, and I'd love to hear some of your works played with acoustic instruments... not ditching the electronics altogether, simply mixing acoustic elements with synthesized ones.

The other issue that I saw in End of Fire specifically is a lack of dynamic contrast - everything is forte. You will be able to establish a more powerful epic piece by having it not blast out at fortissimo every moment.. crescendos and decrescendos and passages in piano and pianissimo can be quite effective even in epic pieces as it makes the big epic parts that much more powerful when they are heard.

End in Fire is Very Nice, a possibility for a Battle song in VS.

You could try doing something for space traveling...

My favorite one in VS is the Peace6_P.ogg one. Man that one keeps "songing" in my head all the time when im not playing.
