Want to correct text

Need help testing contributed art or code or having trouble getting your newest additions into game compatible format? Confused by changes to data formats? Reading through source and wondering what the developers were thinking when they wrote something? Need "how-to" style guidance for messing with VS internals? This is probably the right forum.

Want to correct text

Post by Kander »

Hello,

In-game spelling in Open Source games is horrible. I've played quite a few, and Vega Strike is no exception to this rule. This being OS and all, I figured I might be able to help out on this part, as I don't seem to have any other skills that might be used for the greater good of the game. The only question I am left with is: How? What do I have to do to get a list of all strings used in the game, correct them and submit them back to someone who claims to know what (s)he's doing?

Kind regards,
A Vega Strike Newbie

Hm... you could start with the conversations in /communications/. I forget where the cargo descriptions are stored, maybe one of the master_parts_list files (csv or xml).

Edit: The descriptions are in master_parts_list.csv column 6 (or column f).

Thanks for the pointer, Halleck. Making my way through those XML's now.

I'm seeing two versions Node 20 ("What do we have here? A smuggler flown off of normal space lanes?", and "What do we have here? A smuggler flown off normal space lanes?"). Can a more experienced player enlighten me... which is better?

It's a quote from privateer- I forget the exact phrasing.

One last:

Retro.xml - I don't get it:

"The day my ship is boarded by the likes of you will be the day I take up religion!", but:

"God smiles upon me again, for my enemy has been vanquished!", and "You will be sent directly to hell!", and "You cannot defeat me, it is not in God's wish!". WTF?

I haven't really had contact with these dudes yet, but from what I gather the 'god'-references are not really appropriate?

Great, thanks! I'll give these a once-over, then maybe we can get them committed.

I would also like to submit proofreading edits, but I suspect this thread is probably not the best route to upload them. Suggestions?

Methinks Ryder's been having a little too much of that spice.

Right, back on topic. I'm sure this thread is fine for now, frankie, unless the mods have a better suggestion.

perfectly reasonable place to discuss proofing edits :)

If you have some edits lying around, you can mail copies of the corrections to my ministerofinformation account (gmail) and I'll (review and) put the edits into the game.

Just checking, do you remember if we got Kander's edits committed?

I haven't done it yet (had forgotten about the attachment linked here, didn't get an e-mail). Have now DL'd the attachment.

@Halleck, bug me if you haven't seen any movement on it in the next few days.
